TO ALL WIIOM I'I MAY OONOERN: v
Be it known that I, JEREMY B.` WARDWELL, of Georgetown, in the county of Washington, and District of Columbia, have invented a. new and improved Bedstend-Fastening; and I do hereby declare the following to be :t full, elem-,und exact description ofthe seme, reference beingr had to the accompanying drawings, which are made part of this specification, and in which* Figure I is a horizontal section.
Figure 2 is u. perspective view. l
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two lignres.
The dore-toil tenen on the ond of the rail is received within a mortise-plate on the post. Oneside of the mortise rotates to open or close it upon the tenen. I
In the drawings, A represents a metallic cap on `the end of the mil, being fastened thereon by screws, and having a, dove-tail tenen. B, by which the rail is secured inthe inortisy'e-plnte C of the post. The thickness of the plete is about equal te tlieilength of the neck of the tenon B, and the shoulder or enlargement of thelutter rests against the beck of the inortise-plztte. D is a plate, rotating on st vertical axis in the Wings c ofthe inortise-plnte. The plate D is rotated by means of a handle, d, so nrs `when closed to form one side of the mortise, and when opened, to permitthe dove-tail tenen B to be withdrmi'n. A recess inthe plate A permits the handle 4Z to fold buck suiiiciently,'11nd when closed the handlelies snugly against the side of the post. This joint is firm und secure, not liable to be jnrred loose, :md is easily attached to the respective parts of therail and post.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, und desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The inortise-plnte constructed with a. rot-ating side to close upon the neck of the dove-tail tenon of the rail and to open to permit the withdrawal of the tenen, substantially, :ts described. JEREMY B. WARDWELL.
