REUBIN HAMBLIN, OF MISHAVAKA, INDIANA.
Letters Patent No. 65,905, dated June 18, 1867.
IMPROVED CLOTHES-DRYER.
@its Sflgehule rtferni tu in ilus rtters ntent mit milking part rf tige same.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAYCONCERN:
Be it known that 1,REUBIN HAMBLIN, of Mishnwaka., in the county of St. Joseph, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and improved Clothes-Dryer; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,V clear, and exact description thereof, vwhich will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a top view of my improved clothes-dryer.
Figure 2 is a, vertical section ofthe same, taken through the line x z', iig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved apparatus for drying clothes, by means of which av large drying surface may be supplied while occupying a small amount of space.; and it consists in the combination of one or more sots or ltiers of jointed radial arms, and connecting or supporting wires lor cords, with euch other and with the central shaft, as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the central shaft, which, in the drawings, is represented as being pivoted to nstandard, B, supported .upon feet C, but which may be hung up by means of the eye,` a', attachedto the upper end of said shaft A. Dnre radial arms, the inner ends of which are jointedor pivoted to the shaft A, so that they may-be folded up out ofthe way when not required for use. The arms D may bearranged in one, two, three, or four. tiers, and there may be eight, twelve, sixteen, or any other desired number of arms in a tier. E are supporting 0 1' connecting wires, the inner ends of which are pivoted to the central shaft A, at some distance above the point at which the upper seriesvot` arms is connected to said shaft. Theouter ends of' the 'wires E are hooked over pins or eyes att-ached to `the outer ends ofthe upper series of arms D, so that they can bc readily unhooked when it is desired to fold up the said arms. F are connecting or supportingr wires, the upper ends of which are pivoted to the outer ends of thc upper series of arms D, and their lower ends are connected to the outer ends of the next lower series of arms. lf more drying surface is required, a wire or cord may be passed through the eyes attached to the outer ends of the radial arms, so as to extend all around the apparatus at the ends` of each series of radial arms. If desired, the wires E and F may be replaced with iirmand strong cords, which will not stretch much, so that they will hold the arms' D in a horizontal position. The dryer may be made of any'desired size, according to the purpose for which and the place in which it is designed to be used.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of one or more sets or tiers ofjointed radial arms D, and the supporting or connecting wires E and F, or tbeir'equivalent, with each other, and with the central shaft A, substantially as herein shown and described and for the purpose set forth.
REUBIN HAMBLIN.
