'lO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN 'Be it known that I, G. A. COVER, of Macomh, in the county of McDonough, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Meat-Mangles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being hnd'to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, and to the letters of refer: nee marked thereon, like letters indicating like parts wherever they 000111.
To enable others skilled in the art to construct and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
My invention consists in arranging a fluted roller, in connection with a sliding bed having projections on its surface, in such a. manner that, byturning a crank, the meat is passed under the roller and crushed or mangled to render it more tender.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section taken on the line a: :z: of fig. 2.
Figure 2 is it top plan view.
I construct a frame, consisting of o. flat, iron bed-plate, and having a standard, D, projecting from its upper face, at each side, as shown in fig. 1. I then provide a flat, sliding metal plate, B, having its upper surface covered with a series of small projections, as represented in fig. 2, and a new of cogs, a, along each side on the top, and this plate, B, I place on the bed A, as represented in fig. I then provide a roller, R,-hsving its surface fluted or corrugated longitudinal ly, and mount it in suitable Hearings located in.the standards-D. This roller has a series of cogs, c, at each end, which engage with the cogs a on the plate B, so that when the roller R is turned by the crank O the plate B is caused to slide on the bed A. The roller is held down by set-screws S,
inserted through the top of the standards 1),;nnd having their lower ends bearing on thebox holding the journal of the roller R,;ns represented in fig. 1. 'By adjusting these screws, S, the roller can be adjusted to suit the thickness and condition of the meet, as desired.
The steak or other meat is laid on the plate B, and, by turning the crank C to and fro, it is passed under the roller back and forth, and thus mangled or bruised to-any desired extent.
Having thus described my invention, whpt I claim is- A meat-mangle, consisting of the corrugated roller R provided with the cogs c, and the sliding plate B provided with the cogs a, and having'its surface roughened, when arrangedto operate as described.
