NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANTON MARIUS KOLDERUP, OF BERGEN, NORWAY.
FILE FOR PAPERS, SHEET-MUSIC, 84c.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 658,549 dated September 25, 1900.
Application filed May 22, 1899, Serial No. 717,831. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTON MARIUS KOLD- ERUP, a subject of the King of Sweden and Norway, and a resident of Bergen, Norway, have invented certain new and useful Illlprovements in Files for Papers, Sheet-Music, and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to files for papers, sheet-music, and the like, and has for its object an improved file by means of which the separate sheets may be bound together in groups or series, each group being adapted to be taken out of the file separately and again inserted without disturbing the other contents of the file.
In order to fully explain my invention, I have illustrated the same in annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 shows a longitudinal section through the back of the file. Fig. 2 is an end view. Fig. 3 is a cross-section; and Fig. 4: is a perspective view, partly broken away.
The covers of the portfolio consituting the file-holder are fastened to a U-shaped back A, the sides of which are held in a certain fixed position by means of wires or stays B, of which there may be two or more. On the back is also fastened a spring G, which is also U-shaped, having its ends fastened to the sides of the back and extending across the end of the same.
0 are strips of sheet metal bent so as to form small backs, holding a number of paper strips D, which have slots corresponding with the slots F, said paper strips being covered with adhesive material, so that paper sheets,
sheet-music, and like objects may be fastened to these strips by simply moistening theadhesive material. The metal strips C are provided with angular or curved slots F, the number and position of which correspond with the stays or wires B.
When the small backs are to he put into the file, the spring G is pressed rearwardly, so that the slots F may be brought into engagement with the wires B, as shown. The spring G will then keep the backs in a locked position. When one of the small backs and the papers thereto annexed are to be taken out of the file, the spring G is pressed rcarwardly in the same way as above.
It must be remarked that it is not necessary that the strips or backs C should be made of metal; but they may simply consist of strips of cardboard or the like.
I claim In a file for papers, sheet-music and the like the combination with a Ushaped main holder or back, A, having wires orstays, B, across the sides, and small backs or sectional holders, 0, provided with paper strips, D, covered with adhesive material, and having angular or curved slots, F, of a spring, G, fixed at one end of the back and extending across the side opening of the same, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two Witnesses.
ANTON MARIUS KOLDERUP.
Witnesses HENRY GARDEN, KAREN MATHIESEN.
