Beit known that we, NATHAN B. LEVY and KALMAN LEVY, citizens of the United St-ates, residing at Scranton, in the county. of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have Vinvented a new and useful Display-Tray, Jof which the following is a specilication. A

This invention relates to a jewelers displaytray; and the object of the same is to provide a simple and effective device of this character adapted to be opened and closed and supported on case or counter in elevated position, and when opened the cover serves as a receptacle for receiving the goods in showing them to customers and acts as a protect-ion from injury by dust, dto., which collect on the counter. Furthermore, when the device is closed it is dust-proof and protects the goods displayed from dust, gas, and other substances which might tend to tarnish or soil the said goods, and when placed on the case or counter for inspection the goods cannot he handled by the customer, as the tray would not loe apt to be opened by any one without the assistance of clerks, and the device also protects the goods displayed against the nefarious practices of kleptomaniacs.

The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed and is subject to a wide range of modification Within the purview of the invention, and contemplates changes in the form, size, proportions, and minor details. In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a display-tray embodying the features of the invention and shown open. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section of the improved device, shown closed. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view showing the means for fastening. the rim to the back.

The numeral l designates a back, which is preferably formed of Wood and, as shown, is circular, though other shapes will be adopted at will. The front face of the said back is recessed, as at 2, and this is attained by cutting the material out at the front to leave a surrounding inwardly-beveled shoulder 3, having its outer portion formed with a seat 4 to receive a circular card 5 of the proper dimension and held in place by a rim 6 of metal. The said rim is fitted over and secured to the periphery of the back and has an inwardly projecting flange 7 bearing against the edge of the card 5, and said rim also has an outstanding Bange 8. To the lower central portion of the rim 6 an annular or ring frame 9 is connected by a hinge or analogous pivotal device 10, and secured therein is a glass plate 11 of the same form, the said frame 9 being proportioned and disposed to snugly and removably tit. over the flange 8 to form a tight joint to prevent the entrance of gases and dust or other injurious substances to the tray when closed.

The contents of the tray will at all times be observable through the plate ll, carried by the plate l0, and the two last-mentioned p'arts form a cover for the improved device, and when let down, as shown by Fig. l, provide a convenient receptacle for receiving the goods or articles of jewelry in an easily-accessible examining position and to protect them from injury by dust, grit, or other substances that may be present on the case or counter. Furthermore, the disposal of the goods for display purposes in the cover when let down preventsthe said goods from b ecoming scattered and retains them always under inspection of the salesman or clerk, who will thereby become quickly informed of the unnecessarily long withdrawal of any piece or article. Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new isr i 1. In a display-tray of the character set forth, the combination of a back recessed at the front, to provide asurrounding inwardly-Y beveled shoulder', a supporting device having its peripheral edge rested on `the said shoulder and provided with a pluralityof holders in `the `body thereof, 'a surrounding rim on the back to hold the supporting device in place,

and a frame movably attached to the lower portion of said rim and having a transparent plate, the back also having a prop to hold the entire device in elevated position.

In a display-tray of the character set forth, the combination of a back, a card applied 'thereftoand provided with a plurality 'df catches, a' surrounding rim on 'the back to hold the card in place, and an annular or ring frame hinged to the lower portion of the rim and having a transparent plate to expose the card and `the devices carried thereby, the
