I JEWELRY-DISPLAY CASE.
' Specification of Letters Iatent.
To all whom it ma-y concern:
no itv known that L- WILLLAMC. Rants, 2.
citizen'of the United States, and resident of Brooklymin thecounty of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in. Jewelry- Display 035655 of which the following 18' a specification. p
This invention relates to display receptscles and more particularly to a case for suitably exhibiting samples of jewelry, such "as collar buttons and-similar articles, a stock v of which may be kept in the separate compartments ot the receptacle.
The invention has for ts objects to provide a display case which will prevent the tarnishing of the goods and keep the dust and airout of the stock compartments A further object is to providev means whereby the various kinds of articles in the compartments are brought to the attention of the bu or by S p (iverfparticular style of w ich is secured to-a cover and dis-' posed over the articles of which it is a sample. w
Other objects and the novel features of the invention will be apparent-from the fol- 1 lowing description, taken in. connection with the-drawings, in which: 1 A V Figure 1 is a plan view of the display case; Fig. 2 is-a cross section of the same along the line 22 of Fig.1; and Fig.3 is a view showin the outer and inner covers in slightly raise position.
' .Referring to the drawing, 10 designates a box of rectangular or other desirable form, which may be of pasteiboard or anyjsuitable material and provided with cross partitions "l1 and 12 forming a-plurality of compartments 13 in the box adapted to contain a. xvarietv ofkinds ofsmall articles of jewelry .such as collar buttons.
Hingcd along one'side of the box and at thetop of the compartments as at. 14 there. is an inner. c'over15 which lies flat over each one f of the' compartments when it is closed and covers the same so that the articles will r be retained in their respective compart- 'ments. The innercover 15 may be of anyv suitable material and is preferably made of -transparent celluloid or glass, and there is a tab ).6 at one edge whereby the inner'cover ma g bedrawn out r-lsshown the compart- I ILGIltS 13 are only approximately one-half the depth of the box.
An outer cover comprising a frame 17,- hinged along one edge of the box and hav ing glued thereto a transparent portion 18 of some suitable material as glass or celluloid, fits over the top of the box and covers Patented ape. sale-is,
the sonic. The inner. cover 15. asshown is made of celluloid and is providedv with a number of pairs of short parallel slits 19, one pair of which is disposed over each compartment. a Each pair of 'slits constitutes means for reniovably securing a sample, such as a collar button or other article, to
the cover 15, the' base of the collar button being supported on the narrow. part between the slits as shown in the drawings. It will be understood that other suitable securing means may be employed.
There is an inner or second wall 20 which is ofslightly greater height than the wall of the'box 10 and is set flush against the inside of the box, The depending part of the frame '17 rests flush against the upper edge of the wall 20 and overlies the joining edges of the'cover and box, providing an air-tight box.
The samples secured on the inner cover indicate theparticularkind of articlecontainedin the compartment immediately below the same. The samples vfurther prevent the inner cover from raising and allowing the articles in the several compartment-s to become mixed. Some of the-samples in. the space intervening between the covers may be of such a height as to touch the outer cover and prevent any movement whatever of the inner cover when the box is, turned over while the outer cover is kept closed, yet. it
is not necessary that the samples touch the said outer cover but merely contact with the same before the inner cover opens sufficiently to ermit the escape of the articles in some of tile compartments into other compart-ments. f
It Willbe seen that the construction providesa jewelry display case in which the outer andinner covenwhen closed are sustained in spaced relation by the samples. The inner cover is prevented from any-appreciable movement when the case is closed.
The samples may readily be taken oil and puton, thus permitting achunge of assortments. The stool: as Well. as the sump no readily handled by the cuat the saine'iiimo aye exhihicecl to and kept bright by koepin from dust and air. I
It will he clear that changes may be llltLLiG Wi hoot depzu i'ing fion'z the spirit of the in volition and it is ilioroi'oro to he understood that the invention is not limited to the exact details as sl'io'w'n and Q "ciioecl.
