SLATE FRAME. No. 6 5,795. Patented June 18, 1867.

JAMESMXGONNEL AND JOHN GONNEL, JR, OF NEWARK, om o Lt-tters lalmt No. 65,795, dated Jame-18, 1867 IMPROVEMENT IN SLATE-FRAMES" TO ALL "WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known thirt we, JAMESM. Coxmrr. end Joim Cosmn, Jr.-, of Newark,- in the county of Licking, and State of Ohio, have made a. new and useful Improvement in School Sletcs; and do hereby declare the fol-' lowing to he ag't'oll, cleely zmd exact description thereof, sullieient to enable oneskilled' in--the-o'i-t to which it appertains toconstruet andiuse the same, reference beingi had to the accompanying drawing, mzi-k'ing'part of this, our specification, and in which similar letters indicate like parts; v V
The frame of the slate is held together by'orneme'ntal earlier casings made of India rohhefl lorither, or other analogous moteri'ol, the resiliency of which affords aprotection t-o theislateiwheefolling on its' side, edge, ends, or corners, and else obviates the noise of the slate upon the desks ih"seho 61,, I
In thejdrztwing, A'is the slate, inserted hy its edgefas usual, in .the groov'mpr rahhet oi" the "ironic B, the
pieces of which are jointed together in the usuitl manner bytenon ahd mortise, or o, mitre joint. C are ornamentalmrnermsihgs orveovers, which hip h'pon ewelr side of the-slate and embrace its edges for some distance, represented. They celrbo made of any pattern :rnd style of ornamentation that maybe desired, hnd to increase their resiliency their inner surface may be eellulor, "so theta full ox; cnreless placing of the slate on the desk or table may benttended with as little noise as possihle, It will be obser'vedht the corners, where the feeingof the ca'singis removed to display the construction, that the angle of thecorners of the frame is rounded off and the elastic materiel is thickcst'atthispoint b. This is for the purpose" of protection at the point most exposed to wear end most likclyto strike the floor when falling; *Notehes d are made in the frame to receive the en'teringflanges m of the cap or corner cover which is placed in position expending it sulficiently to slip .over the corner of thefreme Bso as to allow the flanges m to enter the notches d, and the triengul'or ornamental portion to be closedto the fiat sidesof the frame. The direction of" the notches d, as shown in the drawings, causes the flanges to become hooked-into the frame so-eshot to he'too readily withdrawn. This corner casing may lie readily applied to any wooden-frame slate.
We do not clolini falstcning the corners of the slate by owire or other-metallic strap which embraces notches in the edges of the slate. v I
Having described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A corner casing of elastic or resilient meterial, constructed substantially as (lOSCPlb eLL tO hook into the notches in the edges of the sl:tte. s
.To the above specification o'four improvement in slates we have set mir hands this 20tlrday of February, 1867.
