UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
SIMON BOLLINGER, OF SOUTH WHI'ILEY, INDIANA.
CARPET-FASTENERQ SPECIFICATIONforming part of Letters Patent No. 656,387, dated August 21, 1900. Application led April 4, 1900. Serial No. 11.660. (No model.)
To n/ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that LSIMON BOLLINGEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at South Whitley, in the county of Whitley and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Corner-Strip Carpet-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings.
The object of my invention is to produce a device for fastening down carpets without the use of tacks, dac., also to serve as a cornern strip whether carpet is used or not.
Figure 1 of my invention is a front View connected to a section of base-board and iioor.
Fig. 2 isa sectional side view showing the strip raised when it is desirable to remove the carpet. Fig. 3 is a sectional side view showing the strip down when carpet is to be fastened.
In the drawings, A represents the metal shields, connected to base-board by screws a..
B is the corner-strip, which may be of any desirable shape, which is connected to pressen feet d by screws h, while b are recesses in strips B to receive metal points f when corner-strip is down. Points f are set in the oor under strips B, and as lnany may be used as are necessary to keep the carpet from pulling out. v
O are set-screws threaded in holes in the metal shields A. When it is desirable to move the corner-strips to the iioor, they are simply pressed down4 and the set-screws C tightened, when they then connect with the lower and shallow part of set-screw seatss d2, which forces presser-shanks D, whose feet d are connected to strips B, firmly against the base-board and floor, thus insuring a close t.
The metal shields A contain narrow grooves a, which form beds for springs E, just back of which are presser-Shanks D in the shallow grooves a2 of shield A. The tops of the Shanks D are turned horizontally, which forms springrests d. The lower ends of the Vsprings rest on shoulders a3 of shields A.
d represents presser-feet curved from the Shanks D, connected to strips B by screws b, which may be made to fit any desirablyshaped corner-strip. When the set-screws C are loosened, springs E raise the corner-strips from the floor and hold them while the carpet is being taken up or put down.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
In a corner-strip carpet-fastener, the shield Ahaving cavity a', the carpet-strip B having the vertical hole b' to t over a floor projection f, and the spiral spring E, in combination with the presser D having curved foot d at bottom, and the horizontal top Iiange d' to bear on the spring, all substantially as shown and described, for the purpose set forth.
