GAS BEGULATING TIP FOR BURNERS.
I (Application filed. Feb. 8, 1899.) (No Model.)
mzazwu azzfiwm NITED JAMES W. HENTZ, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
GAS-REGULATING TIP FOR BURNERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 656,136, dated August 14, 1900.
Application filed February 8, 1899. Serial No. 704,87 (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMEs W. HENTZ, of the city of Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain Improvements in Gas-Regulating Tips for Burners, of which the following is a specification.
In the description of the said invention which follows reference is made to the accompanying drawings; forming a part hereof, and in which Figure 1 is a central vertical section of an ordinary gas-burner tip provided with the improved flow-regulating device, the side of the device being shown. Fig. 2 is a side view of the device alone. Fig. 3 is a top view of the device.
Referring now to the drawings, A is an ordinary gas-burner tip having a cylindrical cavity a and the gas-exit slot at.
C is a disk having a diameter about the same as the lower end of the tip, provided with the spring expanding wings d, which by reason of the friction between them and the inner surface of the cylindrical cavity a serve to hold the disk in place when adjusted with reference to the lower end of the tip to give the requisite width to the space f, through which gas enters the tip.-
By reference to the drawings it will be seen that the width of the wings d is less than the diameter of the central cavity a of the tip, and in consequence they do not offer any obstruction to the passage of gas to the said cavity after its entrance through the space f. To apply the regulating device to the tip, the wings are pressed slightly together and then inserted in the cavity a and the disk pushed upward until the space f is of such Width as will allow of the consumption of gas without material Waste from excessive pressure.
I claim as my invention In combination with a gas-burner tip having a cylindrical cavitythereim, and a gas-.
slightly together and inserted in the said cavity and held therein by friction, substantially as specified.
JAMES W. HENTZ.
