JL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new. and

useful Improvements in Paper Pails or .Vessels; and I do herebyde'clar'e that the following is a full,]clear, and exact description of the invention, which willenable others skilled in such position and so arranged as to form. in addition to a cover aformer and support for the top flaps of the pail and which reinforces said top flaps tosuch an entent that a '25 lid or cover is provided withsuch strength as to renderit capable of withstanding any pressure or weight that is aptto be placed thereon when the cover is closed over the contents of the pail. With this end in view certain structural features are provided whereby the said cover, former, and support are themselves supported in the mouth of the vessel.

Another object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient means for securing the folded sides of the vessel, for securing the bail or handle, and for maintaining the top flaps closed over the mouth of the vessel.

These several features will be described in detail, reference being first had to the accom- 0 panying drawings, of which- Figure l is a plan of the blank from which the bottom, sides, and top flaps are produced.

Fig. 2 is a plan of the blank constituting the cover, former, and support for the top flaps.

the center square A becomes the bottom of the pail, B B and O O the four sides, and F F and G Gthe four intervening sides folding inwardly between the sides B and O and coming together in the usual manner. These parts F and G when thus folded inwardly bring the edges of sides 0 C in line with the similar edges of sides B B, and the side folds F and G are then folded over the outside of sides B B and secured thereto in a manner hereinafter described. The continuous edges 5 b and f f of the sides B B and F F are folded outwardly alongthe crease-lines bb and f f to stiffen orreinforce the upper edges'of said sides B B and F F. The said side edges b b and ff are slit at s s to enable the sides B B and F F to bend .out on their dividing crease lines. H H are the top flaps. Between said flaps and the side folds G G are additional folds I I and J J. I The latter folds and parts H-H fold inwardly.

-K designates a cover. for the mouthof the pail, and consists of a piece of cardboard of suitable thicknessto provide a support for the top flaps and which also reinforces said flaps. In addition tothe above functions of providing a cover for the vessel and a support tohold the top flaps up in a level position under pressure the said piece K also serves as a former over. which the top flaps are bent. Referring to Fig. 2, the blank K is there shown to have four folding sides K and K, the latter sides folding in a direction the opposite to that in which the sides K are bent, so that the sides or folds K project downwardly over the corners of the reinforced edges b b and f f when the cover is placed in the vessel, and the sides K project up.
