Description

lnitnh tate @anni @Hire WILLIAM H. RANNELS, 0F OAKLAND MILLS, PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters Patent No. 65,433, me June 4,1867.
.IMPROVD HARNESS-PAD BLOCK.
TO ALL WHOMIT MAY CONCER:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. RANNELS, of Oakland Mills, in the county of Juninta, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Block for Forming Harness-Pads; and I do hereby declare the following is a. full and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification- Figurel being a top view of the block.
Figure 2, a side view thereof.
Like letters designate corresponding parts in both figures.
The block A has a base, a, of suieiont width to contain the other parts; the form d being over the middle, and the crimping holders or ledgesff at the sides of the form. A nose projection extends forward from the front end. The bow-lever presser B has two legs, it', which are respectively pivoted at their ends /L L to oblique staples gg, the ends 7i k curving outward to correspond with the position of the staple hinges, substantially as s hown in fig. l. This form of hinging gives stiffness to the legs of the presser and braces them in position. It also prevents t'le presser from being turned up or back too far to be out of position to workwith. The presser has a handle, b, by which it is operated, and a link,vC, pivoteli thereto, and of such length that when the presser is brought down with suiiiciei'lt'pressure upon the block, it can pass around the projectionc of the block and hold the-presser down, substantially as shown by black lines in fig. 2.
'Ilo use the block, the presser is raised into the position shown by red lines in iig. 2, then the leather is placed over the form d, and the presser brought down and locked, thus crimping the leather for the pad, and fastening it down to the crimping holders ff till the form is given to the leather and set permanently.
What I c laim as my invention, and desire to secureby Letters Patent, is g The bow-presser B, having its legs curved outward and' hinged to oblique staples gg, in combination with the block A, when constructed as herein specified. l
The above speciieation of my improved block for forming harness-pad, signed by me this seventhday of January, 1867*.
WM. I-I. RANNELS.
