Be it known that I, LEE A. DEVIN, acitizen of the United States, and a resident of the city and county of Sacramento, in the State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove Attachments; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertaius to make and use the same.

This invention'relates to improvements in stove attachments, and more particularly to movable bottoms for ovens of cookin g-stoves; and the objects of the same are, first, to supply a device by means of which the contents of the oven maybe quickly and readily shifted from one portion of the oven to another without: the necessity of opening the oven-door, and, second, to accomplish this end with structural simplicity and economy.

My invention more particularly resides in the novel combination, construction, arrangement, and. adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, and set forth in the, appended claims.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a vertical elevation of an ordinary cooking-stove with a portion of the front wall broken away, showing the position of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of my attachment. Fig. 3 is a section through the line as as, Fig. 2.

My invention consists, essentially, of the supplemental bottom A of the oven B and ex terior meansfor impartinga revolving motion thereto, and, further, mechanism for adjusting the elevation of the bottom A relative to the main bottom of the oven B.

Reference-being had to the above figures, A represents a circular plate or disk, from which extends perpendicularly downward from its center'the shaft 0, the latter passing through the main bottom D of the oven B and the wall orplate E of the bottom of the stove F. Loosely encircling the shaft 0 is the tube L, which isscrewed into the-lowerwall Eof the stove F.. Revolubly secured to the lower extremity ofthe tube L is the miter gear-wheel Serial No. 618,228. (No model.)

M, the teeth of which mesh with a second gear-wheel N, which is secured to the horizontal shaft 0, the latter having a bearing in the projection P on the tube L. Pivoted to a projection Q on the opposite side of the tube L from the projection P is the lever B, which is constructed with the longitudinal slots S, into which are adapted to rest the projections T on the thimble U, the latter being revolubly secured to the lower extremity of the shaft C.

In order to cause the shaft C to revolve as the gear-wheel M revolves and at the same time permit of a perpendicular play of the shaft C, I have constructed the longitudinal key-slot V in the shaft 0, into which projects a screw WV on the gear-wheel M. From Fig. 2 it is manifest that as the shaft 0 is revolved by means of the wheel X motion is transmitted, through the gears N and M, to the shaft 0, and consequently to the disk A, on which is placed the articles to be cooked.

When it is desired to adjust the elevation of the disk A relative to the bottom D of the oven B, the lever B is either raised or lowered and retained in the required position by means of the pawl Y, which engages with the serrated surface of the projecting arm Z.

By the use of the mechanism shown it is impossible for any soot or smoke to enter the oven, as the tube L forms an efficient barrier between the shaft 0 and the passage between the walls D and E.

The construction and the relative arrangement of the several parts of my invention being thus made known, the operation and advantages of the same will, it is thought, be readily understood.

I am aware that changes in the position and mechanical construction of the several parts of the devices herein shown and described as an embodimentof my invention can be made without departing from the spirit or sacrificing the advantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the right to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the. scope of my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. An attachment for cooking-stoves consisting of the supplemental oven-bottom A,

M and N having bea rings on projecting portions of said tube, and lever R'pivoted to a projection on said tube, said lever being adapted to adjust the elevation of said supplem ental bottom, substantially as shown and for the purpose set forth.

2. An attachment for cooking-stoves consisting of the supplemental oven-bottom A and shaft 0 secured to said supplemental bottom and projecting through the bottom of said stove, tube L encircling said shaft and formed with oppositely-disposed projecting legs P and Q, bevel gear-wheel'M revolubly seouredio' the lower extremity of said tube,

gemwhecl N revolubly secured to leg Pand meshing with gear-wheel M, pin projecting through wheel ill and playing in a longitudinal groove in the lower extremit-yof said shaft, thimble U revolubly secured to the lower end of said shaft, lever R pivoted to leg Q and connected with and encircling thimble U, said lever being retained in any desired position by pawl Y which .engages with teeth on leg I, said tube beihg adapted to engage with screw-threads inf-jthe bottom of the stove and project through the bottom of the oven, substantially as set forth.
