This invention relates to improvements in are to provide a simple device by means of which a person may be easily lifted and removed from the bed when it is desired to make up or rearrange the bedding, and, furi ther, to provide a simple device for snpporting a person in a sitting position in the bed.

I will describe an invalid-bed attachment embodying my invention and then point ont showing an attachment embodying my inven-A tion as applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, but showing the attachment in a different position. Fig. 3 .is a sectional side elevation of the bed, the attachment appearing in its uppermost position. l

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a bed of the ordinary construction. Attached to the inner side of the headboard 2 of the bed is a strip 3, to which is removably secured a rail 4 by means of angle-irons 5,which at their upper ends are attached to the rail 4 by means of nails or screws, and thumbscrews 6 pass through perforations in the portions of the angle-irons which pass along the lower side of the strip 3. Attached to the bar 4 by means of a thumb-screw 7 is a socket S, in which a leg 9 of a track or rail 10 is engaged, the said track or rail having a similar leg 11 at its outer end and resting on the floor at one side of the bed. Similar devices are connected to the footboard 12 of the bed for supporting a track 13, one leg 14 of which passes through a socket 15, while the outer leg 16 rests on the ioor at one side of the bed.

In operation when the patient is to be lifted or moved from the bed the sling or hammock is to be placed under him. Then after engaging the head end of the hammock with the chains or connections 22 and connecting the foot end with the standard 18 by drawing upon the rope 25 the sling or hammock, with the patient, will be moved upward, as indicated in Fig. 3, after which the sling or hammock supporting the patient may be moved rapidly on the rails or tracks 10 and 13 to the position indicated in Fig. 2. After this it is obvious that the bedding may be made up or rearranged as desired.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination with a bed, of horizontal tracks or rails supported at the head and foot of the bed, standards movable on said rails, and a sling or hammock adapted for connection with the standards, substantially as specied.

2. The combination with a bedstead, of tracks or rails removably connected to the head and foot boards thereof, standards movable on said tracks or rails, rollers carried by the standards for engaging with the tracks or rails, a cross-bar on one of the standards, a sling or hammock adapted for connection with said cross-bar, and a rope or tackle connection between one end of said sling or hammock and the other standard, substantially .as specified.

3.
