DOOR-CHECK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 653,368, dated July 10, 1900.
Application filed February 20, 1900. Serial No. 5,921. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OSCAR TSCHIEKY, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan,city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Door-Checks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to door-checks. I will describe a door-cheek embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a cross-sectional view of adoor and door-case, the door-case having applied thereto a doorcheck embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail view, partly in elevation and partly in section, of a portion of a door-case, showing a door-check applied thereto. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Figs. 2 and 3 are drawn to a larger scale than Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures.
A represents a door, and B a door-case in which the door A fits and swings.
b represents the rabbet of the door-case, and b a groove, of substantially the form in cross-section shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, provided in said rabbet.
0 represents a door-check which is held within the groove 1) by any suitable means or device.
The door-check C is here shown as being in the form of a strip, which strip is composed of resilient material. Preferably the strip is made up of a rubber part c and a part c, of felt, cork, or similar material. The rubber part c has a shank 0 which fits in the narrow portion of the recess, and shoulders 0 The shouldersc are adapted, under pressure, to abut against thebottom of the wider portion of the groove or recess b. The felt part c is secured to the shoulders and projects beyond the end of the wall 12 of the groove or recess in order that it will receive the impact of the door. This wall 1)" serves to prevent anylateral or transverse movement of the check.
The check C may only be placed on the vertical part of the rabbet, though it is preferable to have it on the upper horizontal portion of the rabbet.
What I claim as my invention is- 1. The combination of the rabbet of a doorframe provided with a groove which has different widths in cross-section, a door-check adapted to be retained in said groove, said door-check comprising a shank which extends into the narrow portion of the groove, shoulders carried by said shank which under compression abut against the bottom of the wider portion of the groove, and a facing of felt or other soft material for said shoulders against which a door abuts, and the door.
2. A check or stop for doors which extends longitudinally of the rabbet of a door-frame, comprising a compressible shank, shoulders provided on the shank, and a facing of felt or other soft material for the shoulders against which said door abuts.
3. The combination of the rabbet of a doorframe provided with a groove which has different widths in cross-section, a door-check adapted to be retained in said groove, said door-check comprising a shank which extends into the narrow portion of the groove and shoulders provided on said shank which under compression abut against the bottom of the Wider portion of the groove, and a door.
