NATHANIEL W. OOWDREY, OF PEPPERELL, MASSACHUSETTS.
ATTACHMENT FOR DOORS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 528,323, dated October 30, 1894.
Application filed March 16, 1 8 94.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, NATHANIEL W. 00w- DREY, of Pepperell, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Attachment for Doors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation, partly in section, showing the door closed. Fig. 2 is a section on line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
The two vertical railsof the door are called stiles, the top and bottom of the door toprail and bottom rail. The space necessary between the bottom rail and the floor, to allow the door to swing on its hinges, has heretofore been filled up by a threshold when the door is closed, and the main'purpose of my mvention is to do away with the necessity of a threshold, being what may well be called an adjustable strip, which is carried on the door and which is lifted free of the floor when the door is opened and lowered to fill the space between the floor and the bottom rail of the door when the door is closed.
In the drawings A is the door, B the jamb, G, the bottom rail, and D the adjustable strip. The roller m which projects beyond the front Serial No. 503,833. (No model.)
door is closed the action is the reverse; the
force of the spring 17 being overcome by the pressure of the rollerrm against a plate on the jamb B thus causing the slide a to move in the opposite direction to that above described and lowering the strip D. 'The strip D is held to the bottom rail 0 by means of the staples b b whichalso serve as hinges upon which the strip D swings.
What I claim as my invention is In combination strip D, hinges 12 b connections d toothed lever a toothed slide a; spring I) and roller m all arranged to operate with a'door'and its jamb substantially as described.
NATHANIEL w. OOWDREY.
