SPECIFICATION forming part'of Letters Patent No. 653,157, dated July 3, 1900. Application filed August 29,1899. Serial No. 728,863. (No model.)

To all whom it may curl/eerie.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. TURNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at French Camp, in the county of San Joaquin and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in CombinationGarments; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the figures of reference marked thereon,'which forms a part of this specification.

My invention relates to certain improve: ments in combination garments, relating, preferably, to the peculiar combination of pantaloons and drawers, my object being to furnish a garment which Will be cooler and better adapted for wear in Warm climates, (be. This I accomplish by the peculiar construction, novel combination, and adaptation of parts hereinafter mentioned, and pointed out in the claim hereunto annexed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing for a better understanding hereof, in which the figure represents the front View of a pair of pantaloons, partly in section and showing my improvement attached thereto.

My invention consists, essentially, in apair of pantaloons 1 of ordinary out, having a pair of breeches 2 adapted to fit Within said pantaloons, the legs 3 of said breeohes extending slightly below the crotch of the pantaloons and being of the same diameter and circumference as the legs of the pantaloons. The legs of the breeches 2 terminate in a series of points 4:, formed by cutting notches 5 at regular intervals therein. The apexes of the V-shaped recesses 5 in the bottom of the breecheslegs are secured to the legs of the pantaloons preferably by stitching, the edges of said notches being sewed approximately half the distance to the points 4, which said points 4 are unsecured for the purpose of allowing dust, lint, and other dirt to pass through, thereby preventing its collecting and forming a pocket and necessitating a renovation.

hence the same will drop from between the 'breeches and the pantaloons.

At a short distance-about one-third of the length of the leg of the pantaloons-above the bottom of each leg of the pantaloons I attach a pending anklet 6, similar in construction and function to the free end of a drawers-leg, by stitching the same horizontally around the leg, as shown in the portion of the log cut away for that purpose. Theseanklets 6 are designed to exclude all dust, &c., from ascension without the heat and heft consequent upon the wearing of drawers having the legs full length.

The adjustment upon the person is similar to ordinary garments of like character, and therefore needs no explanation.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

As an improved article of manufacture, the combination-garment comprising a pair of pantaloons, a pair of breeches arranged within the upper portion of the pantaloons, and having the alternate V-shaped points at and recesses 5 at the lower ends of its legs, and series of stitches arranged at intervals apart so as to leave openings for the passage of lint and connecting the breeches and pantaloons at the apices of the V-shaped recesses 5, sub stantially as and for the purpose set forth.
