WITNESSES INVENTOR ArrY-s PATENT as; Prion;
MARCUS NEUSTAEDTER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
WICK FOR CANDLES OR LAMPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 652,548, dated J mm 26, 190). Application filed September 13,1899. Serial No. 730,357. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARCUS NEUSTAEDTER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, county of New York,
and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wicks for Candles or Lamps, of which the following is" a specification.
My invention relates to the manufacture of wicks for candles or lamps wherein the wick floats on the surface of the oil. It lies in the discovery that celluloid may be used to great advantage for such purpose.
In the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a sectional View showing the construction of my wick,- the relative sizes of the parts ,being exaggerated. Fig. 2 is an end View thereof. 7
In practicing my invention I take a strip of celluloid A of the required size and wrap the same closely or tightly with combustible fibrous material B.
It is sometimes desirable to saturate the fibrous material of the wick with paraffin or a similar substance.
In some instances it may be desirable to have the celluloid slow burning, and in such cases the celluloid is impregnated with some substance, such as common rosin, in aman ner well known in the art.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'- 1. A wick composed of a core of celluloid wrapped with fibrous material, substantially as described.
2. A wick composed of a core of celluloid wrapped with fibrous material, said fibrous material being saturated with paraffin, substantially as described.
3. A Wick composed of a core of celluloid wrapped with fibrous material, said celluloid being impregnated with a substance to render it slow burning, substantially as described.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 12th day of September, A. D. 1899.
