CORNELIUS A. BOVEE, OF ADRIAN, MICHIGAN.
PAD-HOLDER FOR TELEPHONES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 652,507, dated June 26, 1900. Application filed November 16,1899. Serial No. 737,187. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CORNELIUS A. BOVEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Adrian, in the county of Lenawee and State of Michigan, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Pad-Holders for Telephones; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of thein-. v ention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to pad-holders for telephones, and more particularly to that class of devices designed to hold memoran dum-strips or order-blanks, which may be bound in the form of pads, to the top board of the battery-box of a telephone, in convenient position to make entries thereon.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which shall be simple of construction, durable in use, and comparatively inexpensive of production, and one which may be easily and quickly attached to the battery-box, and one in which provision is made for severing the strip of paper from the pad after the entry has been made thereon.
To thisend the invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved pad-holder for telephones. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device, showing it in position.
In the drawings the same reference characters indicate the same parts of the invention.
1 denotes a rigid frame, practically" U- shaped. Secured to the upper end of this frame is a rigid clamping-jaw 2, the lower edge of which may be sharpened, as shown at 3, to form a cutting edge. 4 denotes a coacting clamping-j aw. This clamping-j aw is connected to the lower end of the rigid frame by a spring 5, preferably 8 or Z shaped, which has its lower end riveted to the lower end of the rigid frame and its upper end riveted to the movable clampin g-j aw. The device is attached to the edge of the top of thebatterybox, as shown in Fig. 2, with the movable jaw bearing against the under side of the top the battery-box top, I may provide the ends of said jaw with elastic bands 6, or any other suitable means may be employed for accomplishing this result. After a note has been made upon the tablet the sheets may be easily and quickly severed from the remaining leaves of the tablet, thus making it unneces sary to release the clam ping-j aw from engagement with the pad in order to remove a sheet.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction, operation, and advantages of my improved pad-holder for telephones will be readily appreciated without requirin an extended explanation.
It will be seen that my device is simple of construction, that said construction permits of its manufacture at small cost, and that it is exceedingly well adapted for the purpose for which it is designed, and it will of course be understood that various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages ofthis invention.
' Having thus described the invention, what is claimed, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
1. A pad-holder comprising a rigid frame, a jaw secured to one end thereof, a spring secured to the other end of the frame, and a jaw secured to said spring and adapted to coact with the first-named jaw, substantiallyas and for the purpose set forth.
2. A pad-holder comprising a rigid frame, a jaw secured to one end thereof, a spring secured to the other end of the frame, and a jaw secured to said spring and adapted to 00- act with the first-named jaw, one of said jaws having a cutting edge, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. A. pad-holder comprising a rigid frame, a jaw secured to orie end thereof, a spring secured to the other end of the frame, and a jaw seciired to said spring and adapted to coact withthe first-namedjaw, oneof said jaws being provided with elastic bands to prevent it from slipping, substantially as and for the I purpose set forth.
of, an S or Z shaped spring secured to the other end of the frame, and a jaw secured to 10 said spring and adapted to coact with the first-named jaw, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CORNELIUS A. BOVEE.
