FLOWS HARE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 652,086, dated June 19, 1900. Application filed April 12, 1900. Serial No. 12,541. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CoRwIN O. COFFIN- BERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Union, in the county of Union and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plowshares; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to detachable plowshares; and one object is to provide a share of this character which can be quickly and readily removed or replaced when necessary.
A further object is to provide a share and connections therefor which will strongly and tightly lock the share to the moldboard and landside of the plow without the use of bolts and nuts.
With these objects in view my invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of the moldboard and landside of a plow having my improved share connected therewith. Fig. 2 is a rear end elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a rear perspective view of the share detached, and Fig. 4 is a bottom plan View of the moldboard and landside with the share removed.
In the drawings, 1 denotes the moldboard, 2 the landside, and 3 the standard, of a plow. These parts may be of any well-known and approved construction and do not in themselves form a part of my invention.
4 denotes the share,provided with the usual point 5. Upon the rear side of the share, near the upper edge thereof, are formed keepers 6 and 7;
8 denotes a cam-lever pivoted one end of the keeper 6. t
9 denotes a frog or angle-plate brace located at the meeting-point of the moldboard and landside and bolted to the same. The
12 denotes a second brace, located to the rear of the brace 9 and consisting of a horizontal transversely-disposed strap, of metal,
I having one end bent at right angles to the horizontal plane thereof and securely bolted to the landside of the plow. The other end of the brace 12 is bent slightly downwardly and forwardly and securely bolted to the moldboard.
The forward end 12 of the brace 12 pro jects beyond the edge of the moldboard and is provided with a notch 13, the lower edge of which is inclined upwardly for a purpose presently to appear.
The end 12 of the brace 12 is adapted to engage the keeper 6 on the share between one end of said keeper and the cam-lever 8, pivoted in the other end of said keeper, so that when the cam-face of the lever 8 is brought to bear against the end 12 of the brace 12 the share will be drawn upwardly (by reason of the inclined edge of the notch 13 being forced into contact with the lower edge of the keeper 6) into close engagement with the lower edge of the moldboarcland securely locked in place.
The point of the share is provided on that portion adjacent to the landside with a downwardly-projecting flange 5, having its inner side recessed for a portion of its length, as at 14, and at the end of the said recessed portion is formed a right-angular-shaped notch 15, forming a lock for the outer end of the landside, which tapers and is recessed and notched in a corresponding manner. The inner end of the flange 5 is also provided with a right-'angular-shaped notch 15, a corresponding notch being formed in the adjacent meeting edge of the land. These connections form a tight joint and lock the parts against any lateral movement.
To remove the share, all that is necessary is to release the cam-lever 8, when the parts will readily slip apart.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation will be readily seen, and a further description of the same is not deemed-necessary.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any .of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described my invent-ion, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination with the moldboard and landsicle of a plow, of the detachable share, the keepers fixed on said share, tongues for engaging said keepers, a flange depending from said share and provided with a recess and lockin g-notches adapted to engage a similar recess and notches in the landside, and means for securely locking and holding said parts in a locked position, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination with the lnoldboard and 'landside of a plow, of the detachable share, the keepers fixed on said share, the cam-lever pivoted in one of said keepers, tongues projecting from said inoldboard and
