SNAP-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 651,265, dated June 5, 1900.
Serial No. 636,909. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM D. OWEN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Brown City, in the county of Sanilac and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and usefulImprovementsin Snap-Hooks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to snap-hooks and its object is to provide an improved construction of the same which shall be simple and economical in manufacture and which can be made from a single piece of spring-wire bent into a peculiar form, wherebyit shall possess superior ad vantages with respect to efficiency in use.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a snap-hook constructed Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view.
In the said drawings the reference-letter A designates the snap-hook, made from a single piece of stiif wire, as follows: Commencing with one of the ends of the wire, it is bent to form a curved hook f and then extended to form a straight arm g, an arm a at approximately a right angle thereto, then formed with an inclined bend h and an arm 6, then extended laterally outward, forming a curved bend it, then extended inwardly, forming an arm 0, then curved to form a bend c, then formed with an arm 1) extending to the bend, where it is formed with a similar bend 70', then extended alongside the arm 0, forming an arm 0 then curved to form a bend 0 then extendedto form an arm a, corresponding with arm e, a bend h passing by bend h, then extended to form arms a and g and hook f, corresponding with arms a and g, and hook h, but reversely arranged with respect thereto.
In using the device a strap or other object The aim of my invention is to so construct a snap-hook that it will lie flat against the object, alongside the straps with which the hook is connected. WVith snap-hooks as heretofore constructed, where the hooked end is disposed at right angles to the loop end, much inconvenience and annoyance have been occasioned on account of a portion of the device protruding laterally in both directions beyond the plane of the body thereof. This is especially true where the snap-hooks are used with harness where it is particularly desirable that-the hook shall lie fiat against the horse or against some part of the harness alongside the snap-hook. In my device the hooked-portion is disposed to one side only .of the body of the device, and thus the device is permitted to lie perfectly fiat against the object alongside of it, with the hook per se projecting laterally from said object.
Having thus fully described myinvention,
what I claim is- 1. A snap-hook constructed at one end with a spring-loop and provided at its other end with two hooks normally disposed side by side, both of said hooks projecting laterally in the same direction from the remainder of the device.
2. A snap-hook made of spring-wire and bent to form a loop and hooks, 'both hooks extending in the same direction and toward the loop, said hooks being offset in one direction only from the remainder of the body.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WVILLIAlVLD. OWEN.
