WIRE-CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 650,687, dated May 29, 1900.
Application filed November 9, 1899. Serial No. 736,379. (No model.)
To 64% whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE LEASK, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Nanaimo, in the Province of British 00- lumbia and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire-Gutters and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to wire-cutters; and it has for its object to provide a wire-cutter which shall be simple of construction, durable in use, and comparatively inexpensive of production and by which an increased amount of power may be obtained, thereby rendering the severing of the wire less difficult and laborious.
To this end the invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved wire-cutter. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same. Fig. 3 is a view of the parts separated.
In the drawings the same reference characters indicate the same parts 'of my invention.
1 and 2 denote the lever-handles of my im proved wire-cutter. These handles are formed with heads 3 and 4, respectively, the former having a circular boss or hub 5 and the latter a cutting-jaw 6. The heads are eccentrically pivoted together by a pivot-bolt 7.
8 denotes a ring which. is fitted upon the hub 5 and is provided with a wire-cutting jaw 9, that coacts with the jaw 6. Projecting from the periphery of the ring is an integral arm 10, provided with an elongated slot 11, through which projects a pin 12, projecting laterally from the side of the handlelever 2 and serving as a guide for saidring.
In cutting the wire the strand is placed between the jaws of the cutter and the handle- levers 1 and 2 are compressed. This movement of the handle-levers causes the ring 8 to be drawn downward and swings its jaw 9 downward and inward, giving to the wire a shearing out.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction, operation, and advantages of the device will be readily apparent without requiring an extended explanation. It will be seen that my wire-cutter is simple of construction, that said construction permits of its manufacture at a small cost, and that it is exceedingly well adapted for the purpose for which it is designed; and it will of course be understood that various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle, or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
1. A wire-cutter comprising the handlelevers, each of which is provided with a head pivoted eccentrically, one of said heads being provided with a cutting-jaw and the other head with a hub, and a ring interposed between said heads and located upon said hub and provided with a coacting cutter-jaw, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A wire-cutter comprising the handlelevers each of which is provided with a head pivoted eccentrically, one of said heads being provided with a cutting-jaw and the other head with a hub, and a ring interposed be tween said heads and located upon said hub and provided with a coacting cutter-jaw, said ring being provided with an extension having a slot-and-pin connection with one of the handle-levers, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
