GOM BI'NED CARD-CASE GAME=COUNTER SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 648,814, dated May 1, 1900. I
' Application iiled Septen her13fl'899. SBrialND- 730,371. (No model.)
T all whomflz't may concern:
Be it known that I, WIL IAM TREWART-HA,
of Angels Camp, in the county of Galaveras and State of Cali fiornia, have invented-a new eate-correspondingparts'in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective View showing one form of my device closed. Fig. 2 is a section of the same taken upon the line 2 2 of Fi". 1. Fig. 3 shows the case opened out in position for use as a game-counter or cribbage-board. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of a modified com struction. nectingthe two parts of such modified construction when used as a counter or'gameboard. Fig. ,6 is a sectional view of another modified construction, and Fig. 7 is an edge view of another modi fication partially opened.
. The object of my invention has been to produce a card-case which may be used asa. gamecounter or cribbage-board and which will be cheap in first cost, so that it may be supplied with each deck of cards.
It is a very common thing amongtravelers to usecards as a means for passing the time,
and it would therefore. be very desirable to be able to provide for the cards a game-counter and cribbage-board which might be used temporarily'and which would cost but a small amount.
The case as constructed in accordance with my invention consists of two principal memhers, each of which is of general box-like form, adapted to have their openfaces placed together, so as to include the cards between them. In the form shownin Figs. 1, -2, and 3 the two parts A and B, which form the two box-like members, are hinged to each other by-means of pivot-pins F, which pass through 5o ears I) at one end of the box.
This enables the two parts to be folded together into the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, in which case that end of the cards also.
Fig: 5 shows the manner of con-' they would be of sucha size as to nicely accommodate a deck of cards and at the same time allow a small space at one end thereof to accommodate four pins I, by means of which the count is kept. At said end the .box is closed by means of two flanges E, placed one upon eachhalf of-thedevice. These serve to retain the pins and cards in place. The other end of the box maybe left open, as shown in Fig. 2, or have similar flanges projecting downward, so as to inclose The main'faces of the parts Aand B are provided with holes 0, which preferably are arranged in the same manner as the holes in a cribbage-board.
When the device is spread out into the position shown in Fig. 3, it forms a convenient cribbage-board which may be used a number of times without being damaged.
The case may be constructed of any convenient materiaheither metahcelluloid, pasteboard, or other suitable material, and may thus be made of such slight cost that it may be thrown away after having been used.
. In order to secure the outer or swinging ends of the two parts A andB'together, raised knobs'G are provided by stamping the ma: terial, these knobsbeing engageable, so as to hold the two parts together when closed.
In Fig. 4. a modified construction is shown, in which thetwo parts of the box telescope after the manner of the ordinary box and its cover. One part A is provided with two small projecting arms H, which are L-shaped and are adapted to he engaged by the end of the other half B of the box. The part B is provided with a notch 11 in one end of such Width as to pass outside of both of the arms H after the manner shown in Fig. 5, thus locking the two halves of the box together.
The construction shown in Fig. 6 is the same as that described, except that the part A of the box is provided with two main faces and is opened at one end, the part 13 sliding into the same from one end. The inner member 13 of the box is'provided with a notch 11" in one end adapted to engage the arms II upon the other part of the box. This form of cover may be constructed so cheaply as to besoldwith each deck of cards without materially increasing the price. It will therefore be found of great convenience for travelers who wish to pens their time away in games with cards.
The form shown in Fig. '7 has the two halves A and B connected by a piece J, which is hinged at either end to the outer corners of the two sides. This form when opened o'nt makes a little longer eribbage-board'.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A combined card-case, and cribbage:
board, comprising two boxlike members adapted to fit one within the other to form a case of a. size to receive a deck of cards, the said members having aseries of holes in their facesand provided with means for securing them together, whereby when the members are arranged end to end they form a crlbbagebers being provided with holes arranged in the same manner as the holes of a. cribbageboard, substantially as described.
3. A combined card case and cribbageboard, comprising two box-like members open at one side and end and provided with flanges at the other end for closing said end, the menibers being provided with holes in their faces and hinged together tofitone withintheothe r when closed, substantially as described.
4. A combined card case and cribbageboard, consisting of two box-like members adapted to fit one within the other and pro vided with cats at one end by which they are hinged together, each member having an open side and end and provided at its hinged end with a flange, the members being provided with rows of holes arranged in the same manner as the holes of a cribbage-board, substantia-lly as described.
