No. 414,490. Patented Nov. 5, 1889 0000 "=5 ooeoo WIT/H8858: INVENTOR EEK 3N fim ww.
' ATTOHNE 6.
UNITED STATES SAMUEL BRETZFIELD,
PATENT ()FFICE.
OF NEWV YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED PLAYING-CARD CASE AND CRlBBAGE-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 414,490, dated November 5, 1889.
Application filed June 18, 1889. Serial No. 314,735. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL BRETZFIELD, of the city of New York, county and State of New York, a citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Playing-Card Case and Cribbage-Board, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved playing-card case, which also contains a cribbage-board and spaces for game counters or checks.
The invention consists in a card-case containing a cribbage-board, which forms spaces in the case for game-markers and for playingcards.
The invention also consists in the combibination and construction of parts and details, as will be fully described and set forth hereinafter, and finally pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of myimproved combined playing-card case and cribbage-board closed. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the same closed. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the same opened. Fig. 4 is a top view of the same opened, parts being broken out.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The easev is composed of two box-sections A, and A which are hinged to each other at A so as to adapt one to be swung open, the otherto close the case. \Vithin each boxsection A A a partition B is provided, which is of the same area as the interior of the section and fits into said section. The partition is provided along the side edges and one end with downwardly-extending flanges C, which rest on the closed bottom of the boxsection, thereby forming a support for the partition and also holding the same a certain distance from the closed bottom of the section, and also a certain distance from the top. The flanges C are preferably made of such height that the top of the partition B is held a distance from the top edges of the box-section equal to half the thickness of a playingcard package.
On the upper surfaces of the partitions B a series of squares or fields D vare produced,
which are provided with holes D for receiving game-marking pins in the same manner as a cribbage-board. The marking-pins E are held in loops F in the partitions or are placed into the box-sections. The partitions B are hinged to the outer ends oft-he boxsections A A so as to adapt them to be swung upward, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3. They have each a handle-lip B on their swinging end.
Game markers or checks G are placed into the box-sections below the partitions B, and a pack of playing cards H is placed on one partition and the other box-section swung or folded down upon it to close the case, as shown in Fig. 2. The case thus contains the playing-cards, game markers or checks, and a cribbage-board.
The markers or checks can be used when playing eucher, poker, or any like game requiring their use, and the cribbage-board is very handy in case the players prefer a game of cribbage, or wish to change from some other game to cribbage.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a card-case, the combination, with two box-sections hinged together, of a flanged perforated partition hinged to the outer end of each box-section, the flanges of said partitions being about half the height of the sections, thereby forming a space below the partition for game-markers and a space between said partitions for the pack of cards when the case or box is closed.
2. In a card-case, the combination, with two box-sections hinged together, of a flanged perforated partition in each box-section, said partitions being about half the height of its section, thereby forming a space below the partition for game-markers and a space above the partition for playing-cards, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SAML. BRETZFIELD.
