Description

Patented May I, I900.

1 BALE TIE.
(Application filed Feb. 15, 1900.)
(No Model.)
5 xweulfoz UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT J. PFEFFER, BELLVILLE, TEXAS.
BALE-TIE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 6&8,784, dated May 1, 1900. Application filed February 15, 1900. Serial No. 5,331. (No model.)
To all whom 11 my concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT JOHN PFEF'FER,
' a citizen of the United States, residing at Bellville, in the co'untyof Austin and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bale-Ties; and I do declare the following to be a-full, clear, and exact dc 'scription ofthe invention, such as will enwhen fastened around a bale cannot possibly become detached therefrom.
To this end the invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully de-' scribed and claimed.-
' In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis "a perspective view of my improved bale-tie, showing the ends ofthe straps fastened to- Fig; 2 is a longitudinal sectional gether.
- view through the bale-tie and the ends of the straps.
a plan view of the jaws. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of one end of the bale-band,
showing the stops formed thereon.
In the drawings the same reference characters indicate the same parts'of' the invention. 1 denotesthe band, one end of which is provided or formed with a hook 2, and 3 3' denote the angular fastening-jaws pivoted to one-end of the band and adapted to'be engaged by the hooked end of the band.' -.The
' jaws are pivoted one to the upper and the otherto the lower side of one end of the band,
which has its extremity formed with an upwardly projecting stop-Mp4 and with a down wardlyeproject-ing integral stop-lip5 to limit the inward movement of the jaws. Oneof the jaws has its forward end curved downwardly,
and this end is provided with a transverse slot 6 open at one, end.
I; r -In fastening the tie around the bale after the band has been placed around the bale the 'jaws are separated to permit ofithe engagement of the hooked end of the band with the jaw 3'. This having been accomplished the base-wall of the slot 5 will hold the hooked Fig.- 3 is a top plan view. Fig. 4 is end of the band a distance above the jaw 3 sufficient to permit of the jaw 3 being swung over the jaw 3 and through the hooked end of the band. In pressing them together the movement of the jaws is limited by the limitstops 4' and 5.
' From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction, operation, and advantages of my improved bale-tie will be readily apparent without requiring an extended explanation.
- It will beseen that the bale-tie is simple of construction, that said construction permits of its manufacture atsmall cost, and that it for which it is designed.
Various changes in' the form, proportion,
*is exceedingly well adapted for the purpose v and the minor details of construction maybe resorted to without departing from the principle or' sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention. 7
Having thus described the invention what is claimed, and desired to be secured by, Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination with a bandgof coacting jaws pivoted to one end thereof, one .of said jaws having its ed ge bent downward and provided with'a transverse slot to support the other end of said band in the proper position to be engaged by the other jaw, substantially as and for the purpose setforth. I "2. The combination with a band one end of which is provided with stop-lips; of coactingf jaws one pivoted to the under side of the band near its end and the other pivoted to the upper side of the band near its end, said jaws adapted to be limited in their inward having its edge bent downward and provided with a transverse slot adapted to be engaged bya hook carried by the other end of said band, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
movement by the stop-lips, one of said jaws In testimony whereof I have'hereufit'o set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit- A. J. PFEFFEB.
