To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that l, JOSE LOVERA, a resident of Tampa, in the county of Hillsborough and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Sealing Boxes, &c., of which the following is a specification.

Vhile the range of application of my invention is very wide, it is intended more particularly for use in wooden packing or storing vessels, such as boxes, barrels, and the like, and has for its object to provide a simple, cheap and effective means for sealing thesame in a manner to prevent removal or displacement of any one of the component parts of the vessel withoutbreaking the seal.

To these ends my invention consists in the combination, with a pin, bolt, or nail passing through each of the component parts of the vessel or any of such parts which it may be necessary to displace in gaining access to the vessel, of a sealing strand of thread or wire passing through the pins, bolts, or nails and having its ends suitably secured by a seal,

the whole being arranged so that no part of the vessel can be displaced sufficiently to give access to the vessel without breaking the seal.

For purposes of illustration my invention is herein shown as applied to an ordinary rectangular packing box or case and also to a barrel or cask.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a packing box or case to which myinvention is applied. Figs. 2, 3, and 4 are views representing suggestive forms of the pins, bolts,:or nails, and the seal which are employed in carrying out myinvention. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one end of a cask to which my invention is applied.

In Fig. 1 the packing box or case isconstructed of boards 1, end strips 2, and heads Through each end of the boards 1 and the end strips to which it is secured is passed a pin, bolt, or nail 4 of suitable length to provide a projecting end within the recess formed by the strips. 7 Said pins are provided with perforations 5 on their inner ends, and through all of the perforations 5 is passed a continuous strand of thread or wire 6, the ends of which are brought together at any suitable point aboutthe ends to hold them together.

and securely held in any suitable lock or seal 7, preferably of a form which is compressed With a construction as 'thus described it is obviously impracticable to remove any one of the boards 1 or the head 3 without first breaking the wire 6 or destroying the seal 7. The box or case is therefore absolutelysealed against removal of the contents.

As will be understood from Figs. 2 and 4, the pin, bolt, or nail 4 may be of any one of the number of different forms. For securing parts of large dimensions it may be preferable to employ an angular flattened form, as shown in Fig. 2, while for ordinary use a form, as shown in Fig. 4, corresponding substantially to an ordinary wire nail may be em ployed. It will be understood that the form of seal illustrated in Fig. 3 is merely suggestive, as any suitable form of seal may be employed.

For securing barrels, casks, and the like the 'pins, bolts, or nails 4 may be passed through.

each one of the staves 8, together with their securing-hoop 9, as shown, or it may simply be necessary to employ a sufficient number of the pins 4 to insure against removal of the securing-hoop 9. An inner strip 10 is likewise preferably used, and through it the ends of the pins are made to project. A strand of wire 6 is then passed through the perforations 5 in the pins 4 within the recess formed in the head of the barrel and the ends secured together by-a seal 7 in the manner described with reference to Fig. 1. p

- As stated, I do not confine myself to the application of my invention to any particular form of receptacle, for my invention consists in combining with the component parts of a receptacle pins or the like passing through a sufficient number of the parts to prevent displacement of any of them and having per forated inner ends through which a thread or wire may be passed and held by having its ends sealed together.

Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

A device for sealing boxes, &c., having a closure located within the end of the receptacle, and a strip located outside of the 010- sure; comprising a continuous series of fastenings surrounding the end of the receptacle extending through the end of the receptacle I and through the strip, and having exposed ends formed with perforations, a continuous strand threaded through the perforations,

and a seal whereby the ends of the strand are connected; substantially as described.
