UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
DAVID GOLDSMITH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TRUNK-FIXTU RE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 645,170, dated March 13, 1900.
Application filed August 1 7 1 89 9 Be it known that 1, DAVID GoLDs1v1rrH,-a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, count y of New York, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trunk-Fixtures, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to trunks, and particularly to the improvement of the tray portion thereof.
The main object is to provide a simple, inexpensive, efiective, and durable fixture whereby the strength of the trunk-tray and its partitions is materially increased.
In the drawing the figure is a perspective view of one side or end, as the case may be, of atrunk-tray, showing a portion of a partition and provided with my improved fixture.
A is the side of a trunk-tray.
B is a partition.
O is a face-plate.
D is a T-shaped top plate.
E E are ears depending from the stem of the T-shaped top plate.
FF are cars depending from the upper portion of the T-shaped top plate.
The ears E E stand at planes substantially at right angles to the plane of the face-plate O.
The ears F F are arranged parallel to the face-plate O, and the angles formed by the top plate, the face-plate, and the depending ears are substantially right angles, so that the Serial No. 727,481. (No model.)
fixture will snugly embrace the edge of the tray, as Well as the partition, and securely hold said parts in position. Suitable rivets, nails,
. or the like may be employed to fasten the faceplate and the ears in a secure manner. The ears E E straddle the partition 13. When the parts are assembled, this engagement of the tray by the ears F F will prevent the side be ing spread inwardly, while the plate 0 will prevent the side from being spread outwardly, and the partition 13 cannot be sprung in either direction by reason of the engagement of the fixture.
What I claim is-- In a trunk, a tray and a partition therefor, a fixture for said partition comprising a T- shaped top plate, ears depending at right angles from one arm thereof and straddling said partition, supplemental ears depending at right angles from the other arms of the said T-shaped top plate and bearing against the inner side of the tray, a face-plate depending at right angles from the outer edge of said of the tray, said face-plate and supplemental ears being located in planes parallel with respect to each other and at right angles with respect to the plane of the first-mentioned ears.
