REIVIOVABLE ROD FOR CURTAINS, 'ROLLER-BLINDS, OR THE LIKE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 644,358, dated February 27, 1900.

Be it known that I, ERNST EMIL KAMMER, residing at Hamburg, in the German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Removable Rods for Curtains, Roller-Blinds, or the Like, (for which I have applied for patents in England, No. 8,667, dated April 25, 1899; in Germany, dated March 3, 1899; in Austria, dated April 22, 1899, and in Hungary, dated April 24, 1899,) of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and effective construction of rods or rollers for curtains, rollerblinds, and the like which will allow for the fastening of the curtain or roller-blind to the rod or roller and permit the lengthening or shortening of the rod or roller to t windows of different widths.
To this end my invention comprises a main longitudinally-recessed telescoping sectional rod or roller and an auxiliary telescoping sec tional rod adapted to t in the longitudinal recess of the main rod or roller to clamp a curtain or roller-blind therein and means of attachment between the main rod or roller and auxiliary rod. The two rods being formed of telescoping sections enables the lengthening or shortening of the rod to fit windows of different widths.
In the accompanying drawings one form of my improved curtain rod or roller is shown, in which-'- Figures 1 and 2 are elevations taken at right angles to each other. Fig. 3 is an end elevation. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view showing the method of operating the device. Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional View.
The main rod or roller comprises the sections o, and d, the rod a telescoping with the tube d and both of said sections o. d being formed with a longitudinallyextending recess in one face. At the outer end of the rod a is attached the head b, formed with a tubular socket c and a journal-pin adapted to engage the ordinary shade-roller bracket. At the outer end of the tubular section d is formed the bearing-pin e, adapted to engage in the ordinary shade-roller bracket.
The auxiliary rod consists of sections fg, telescoping one within the other, the section f being formed with an eye fitting over the pin e of section d and the tubular section gbeing provided at its outer end with a pin 71 which is adapted to engage in the tubular socket c of the head b.
The sectional main rod or roller and auxiliary rod having been pulled out to the proper' length to fit the window to which they are to be applied, the shade or blind is placed upon the recessed face of the main rod or roller, and Ythe auxiliary rod is then pressed up into close contact and the pin h inserted into engagement with the socket o. The improved roller is then put in place in the ordinary shade roller bracket attached to the window-frame.
The improved rod or roller is particularly suitable for use with patent spring-fittingssuch, for instance, as the tension-spring,which is placed under strain by drawing down the shade and automatically winds the shade up when released.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- In a curtain-rod, the combination of the longitudinally-recessed telescoping sections a, d havin g j ournal-pins at their opposite ends, the socket c attached to the end of section a, the sectional rod f, g, the section fof which engages the journalepin at the end of section el, while the section g of which is provided with a pin h adapted to engage socket c, said sectional rod f, g being adapted to be held in engagement with the longitudinal recess of the rod a, d, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. y
