Description

@dini-teli gisten @sind @Win12,
Letters Patent No. 104,98-9 dated July 5, 1870.
IMPROVED METHOD OQE HANGING- WINDOW-SHADES.
The Schedule referred to in these4 LettereA Patent and making parl: of the dame.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HIRAM W. OLNEY, of Pittsburg,- in the count-y of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful improved Mode of Hanging lWindow-Shades; andI do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact vdescription thereof', sueient to enable those skilled inthe ait to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making part of this specification. in
rollers are attached to the cornice, and the Ausual arrangement of the cord may be adopted; 1 prefer, however, to wind the cord around one end of the roller, as shown in fig. 1, so that, on pulling the cord, the roller is revolved and the shade rolled up, and' m'ce 'lesa- To the topof the cornice v A are attached two or more rings, B, at positions corresponding with hooks,
O, driren or screwed into the window-frame, so that the c ornice, with the shade and fixtures attached, can
`be put in place by simply hanging the rings on the hooks.
The hooks may be inserted either in the face or in the lower side of the top portion of the frame. 4
My improvement facilitates the removal and replacing of curtains, and saves the trouble and annoyance of putting up and taking down fixtures, the hooks C and one or more knobs D for the cord being the only fixtures required to be attachedto the window-frame.
The cornice A also protects the shade and fixtures from dust to a 'great extent.
I am aware that. brackets and moldings have been attached to window-frames by means of hooks and rings, and thereforeI do not claim, broadly, the attachment of the cornice by means of the hooks and rings; but Y What I claim as new, and-desire to secure'by Letters Patent, is vThe cornice A, attached to the window-easing bythe rings B and hooks O, and having the curtain-roller attached to the inside of the cornice, when constructed vand arranged as herein shown and described, for the purpose specified. v i V W. OLNEY.
