Be it known that I, BYRON B. SHEA, acitizen of the United States of America, residing in Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Menstrual Receptacles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings. 7

My invention relates to improvements in menstrual receptacles; and the object of my invention is to provide a novel and useful device for feminine use during the periods of menstruation.

My invention is adapted to be worn by the female during the monthly period for the purpose of receiving the menstruous discharge, and thus dispense with the cloths, &c., usually worn for such purposes.

My invention provides, further, certain novel and useful features of construction hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, illustrative of my invention, Figure I represents a vertical sectional view. Fig. II represents a front elevation view.

The receiver A of the device is disk-shaped, preferably hollow, and provided with flat sides. From the upper side of the receiver or chamber A vertically projects a tube B, provided at its upper end 0 with a bell-mouth or flaring shaped muzzle. From the opposite side of the receiver a discharge-tube D projects, which is adapted to receive a tubular coupling E, the upper end of which is of the shape usually provided to receive thereon the end of a rubber tube, and the lower end is externally screw-threaded and has fitted thereon an internally-sorew-threaded cap F. The receiver A and tubular projections B and D are preferably made of soft rubber and the cap F and tubular coupling E of hard rubber.

Upon one side of the receiver at its periphery is provided a boss G, which is preferably integral with the body of the chamber A and is provided with a transverse hole in which may be secured a ring II, adapted to be secured to a cord or strap designed to assist in supporting the device from the body of the wearer. If desired, the ring II may be dis pensed with and the supporting-cord may be passed through the transverse hole in the boss G instead of through the ring.

My invention is operated as follows: At the beginning of the period of menstruation the tube B is inserted into the vaginal canal, the bell-mouthed end or muzzle being provided, so that the tubewill firmly embrace the walls of the vagina and prevent any of the discharge passing through the canal passing around the tube. Before the tube B is inserted the receiver is flattened, so that most of the air is excluded therefrom. If then the tube is inserted, there will be a suction effected which will assist in guiding the flow into the tube and thence into the receiverchamber A. At any time desired the device may be removed from the person and cleansed. This is facilitated by removing the screw-cap F. In Wearing, it is most convenient for the article to be worn with the ring toward the front of the body. A cord (not shown) may be passed through the ring II and secured to the clothing or passed around the body to assist in supporting the device.

It is obvious that many modifications may be made while not departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A menstrual receptacle comprising the receiver A provided with the boss G having a transverse hole therethrough, the inlet-tube B having the flaring mouth 0, the outlet-tube D, and the coupling E fitted to the tube D and provided with the cap F substantially as described.

2. As an article of manufacture, a menstrual receptacle comprising a receiver provided with an integral boss on the edge hav ing a transverse opening therethrough, an integral tubular extension from the edge of the receiver and having a flaring mouth, an outlet-opening diametrically opposite the said extension and means for closing the said out let-opening, substantially as described.
