Description
F. J. OROURKE FOUNTAIN SYRINGE. APPLICATION FILED MAR-71.19171 Patented Sept. 11, 1917.
WITNESSES FRANK J. OROURKE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FOUNTAIN-SYRINGE.
Application filed March 7, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK J. OBOURKE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, W hitestone, borough of Queens, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Fountain-Syringe. of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide certain new and useful improvements in fountain syringes or douche bags whereby the user, or the nurse or other attendant in charge of a person can see at a glance when the water or medicated liquid contained in the bag begins to flow out of the bag to the afllicted part and can also gage the amount of liquid discharged from the bag. Another object is to removably attach an indicator, in the form of a glass gage, to the rubber bag and to allow of removing the same and using the bag without said indicator whenever it is desired to do so.
In order to accomplish the desired result, use is made of a rubber douche bag provided at the top with a filling opening and at the lower end with an outlet tube, and an indicator removably held on the front of the said bag and in communication with the in terior thereof.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a rubber fountain syringe or a douche bag provided with the improved indicator;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged transverse section of the same on the line 22 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a similar view of the same with the lower portion shown in elevation and with the indicator removed and the nipples plugged up.
The bag 10 of rubber or like materlal is provided on the top with the usual filling means 11 for filling the bag 10 with water or a medicated liquid. The upper end of the bag 10 is also provided with a tab 12 having an eyelet for hanging up the bag on a nail or other suitable support. The lower end of the bag 10 is provided with an outlet tube 13 on which a hose, having the usual nozzle or other implement for directing the water or medicated liquid to an afflicted part, is attached.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 11, 191?.
Serial No. 153,108.
The upper and lower portions of the bag 10 are reinforced by reinforcing pieces 14: and 15, and on the reinforced portions of the front of the bag are secured nipples 16 and 17, preferably made of rubber, and in communication with. the interior of the bag 10, as plainly shown in Fig. 2. The nipples 16 and 17 are adapted to be engaged by the angular ends 18 and 19 of an indicator in the form of a glass tube 20 to permit of viewing the level of the liquid in the bag 10. The angular ends 18 and 19 of the indicator 20 are provided with collars 21 and 22 adapted to abut against the outer faces of the nipples 16 and 17 to limit the inward movement of the ends 18 and 19 so that the terminals of the said ends are practically flush with the inner faces of the nipples 16 and 17, as plainly shown in Fig. 2. The terminals of the ends 18 and 19 are preferably provided with flanges 23, 24c fitting against the inner faces of the nipples 16 and 17 so as to securely hold the indicator 20 in position in the said nipples. It is unde1= stood that as the nipples 16 and 17 are made of rubber the ends 18 and 19 can be readily pushed into the nipples 16 and 17 or the said ends can be pulled out of the nipples whenever it is desired to dispense with the use of the indicator. In this case the nipples 16 and 17 are closed by plugs 25 and 26 to prevent the liquid contained in the bag 10 from passing out of the nipples 16 and 17.
It will be noticed that when the bag 10 is filled with water or with a medicated liquid and the nozzle or other implement at the end of the hose connected with the outlet tube 13 is applied to the afflicted part and the usual closing device on the hose is opened, then the nurse or other attendant can see at a glance whether the liquid begins to flow out of the bag or not, and can also gage the ](amount of liquid that has flowed out of the The indicator tube 20 although preferably made of glass may be made of other transparent or translucent material.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. As an article of manufacture, a rubber douche bag provided at the top with a filling opening and at the lower end with an outlet tube, and an indicator removably held on the front of the said bag.
2. As an article of manufacture, a rubber douche bag provided at the top with a filling opening and at the lower end with an outlet tube, upper and lower nipples on the front of the bag, and an indicator having its ends removably engaging the said nipples.
3. As an article of manufacture, a rubber douche bag provided at the top with a filling opening and at the lower end with an outlet tube, upper and lower-nipples arranged on the front of the bag and in communication with the interior thereof at points intermediate the said filling opening :and the said outlet tube, and a gage tube having angular ends el-igaging the said nipples.
4. As an article of manufacture, a rubber douche bag provided at the top with a filling opening and at the lower end with an outlet tube, the front of the bag being provided with rubber nipples in communication with the interior of the bag at points intermediate the said filling opening and the said outlet tube, the said nipples being adapted to receive closing plugs or the angular ends of a glass gage:
5. As an article of manufacture, a water bag having spaced rubber nipples communicating with the interior of the bag, and provided with a gage tube having angular ends entering the said nipples, the-said ends having flanges engaging the inner and outer faces of the nipples.
