UNITED STATES PATENT EFICE.
CLARKSON A. KOEHLER AND JAMES A. KOEHLER, OF SAGINAW, MICHIGAN.
FLOWER-POT HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 636,265, dated November 7, 1899.
Application inea Aprn 19, 1899.
[0 all whom .it may concern,.-
Be it known that we, CLARKSON A. KOEH- LER and JAMES A. KOEH'LER, citizens of the United States, residing at Saginaw, in the county of Saginaw and State of Michigamhave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flower-Pot Holders; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willv enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the figures of`reference marked thereon, which forms a part of this specification.
Our invention is a flower-pot holder; and the improvements consist in the arrangement, combination, and construction of parts of a iower-pot holder, whereby certain important advantages are obtained and the device is' made simple and durable.
Inthe drawing the figure is an elevation of the device, partly in section.
The standards or supports l l for the holder terminate at the top in a conicalapex 2, which is provided with a central threaded orifice into which the spindle 3 of the circular plate 4 passes. By turning the plate it is raised or lowered. Arms 5 5 are pivoted to the edge of the plate 4 at regular intervals by the pivots 6. The arms 5 5 bend upwardly in artistic form and have depending ends 7, adapted to'engage the surface ot' the cone 2 and to open or close .the arms 5 5 when the plate 4 is moved up or down. Between the arms we place the flowerpot, which may be of any size, and by turning the plate 4 up or down cause the arms 5 5 Serial No. 713,681. (No model.)
l to engage the wall of the pot and hold it firmly in position.
We do not desire to confine ourselves to any particular form of arms and their depending ends 7 and any change suggested by mechanical skill may be made Without departing from the spirit of our invention. It is obvious thatv any number of these arms 5 5 may be used, the device illustrated being adapted for six, one being cut away; but it is apparent that three arms, arranged at regular distances, would serve the purpose.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. .In a iiower-pot holder, the combination with a support; of a plate carried by said support and vertically adjustable relatively thereto; radially-adjustable arms pivoted to said plate; and means for automatically adjusting the arms by vertical movement of the plate, substantially as described.
2. A {lower-pot holder consisting of the support 1, the conical apex 2, the plate 4 provided with a threaded spindle 3 entering a threaded orifice in the cone, and the pivoted arms 5 having depending ends adapted to bear upon vthe surface of the cone and thereby to open and close the arms as the plate 4 is moved up or down, substantially as described.
Signed by us in the city and county of Saginaw, Michigan, this 19th day of August, 1898.
