TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, J. A. WHITMAN, of Auburn, in the county of Androseoggin, and State oi" Meine, have invented n new and useful Improvement in Oil Cans; 'and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, und exact description thereof, which Will enable others skilled inthe nrt to molte and' use the seine, reference beingbud to the accompanying drawing, forming port of this speeication.
This invention relates to a simple method of saving oil which is to ,be used for lubricating purposes from being wasted, and it consists in forming n, funnel-shaped collnr or cup nround the tube of the oil-cnn. which catches and holds the oil which would otherwise drop from the tube and be Wasted.
The drawing represents n vertical central section oithe oil cnn with the collar attached.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
A represents the body of the oil can; B is the tube, and C represents the cellar or cup In the construction of the oil cnn there is nothing particularly novel. The tube B is screwed into the bod)T @f the can in the usual manner, and it may or may not have aj spring bottom. TIhe improvement is in placing around the tube the collar C for the purpose of receiving the oil which would otherwiserun downoal the outside of the can from the discharging end of the tube. In using the can u drop or :1. portion et' the oil will be-left on the outside of the point of the tube, nml will run down into the coller or cup. When the cup becomes full, the distance of the edge of the cup lfrom the tube is so small that the oil contained in it will obey the inw of attraction and follow thetub'e instead of dropping from the edge; consequently ull the oil goes where itis designed none is wasted by dripping from the een.
` Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let-ters Patent, is-
The collar C forming n cup upon the tube B,-at such a, point near its upper end that the oilcontained in said cup shall, when the oil can A is reversed, flow down the said tube and of? its point without overowing the said cup, as herein set'forth.
to go, rend J. A. WHITMAN. Witnesses:
