Description

C. F. HERRIGK, 0F INDEPENDENCE, IOWA.
Lettera Patent No. 63,386, dated April 2, 1867.
IMPROVBD CURTAIN SUPPORT.
T0 ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, C. F. HERRICK, of Independence, -in the county of Buchanan, and State of Iowa., have invented certain new and useful improvements in Curtain Supporters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and complete description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the Y accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a front View.
Figure 2 is a side view.
Figures 3 and 4 are detached views that will be referred to in the description.
Like letters of reference refer to Vlike parts in the views.
In the drawing, A represents the fastener, to which is connected the strap B and bands C. The fastener A consists of the spring D and back-piece A, which is bent up so as to form sides te the fastener, as shown in fig. 2. These sides extend up and form two notches on each side; in these notches the spring rests, the points a a of the sides curving over on to the spring; thus it is held by means of the notches and points a, as indicated. The bands pass through the fastener between the spring and back-piece, the ends of the springpressing firmly on the bands at each end of the fastener, as shown at b, fig. 2, the band passing double through the fastener, the end extending up and over the small roller, e', fastened to the strap B, one end of the band passing from the other end of the fastener down under the lower curtainstick, then up, and the end secured to the strap B by means of the clamp d, which passes over the end of the band, and the ends are bent and lap over on the.
opposite side of the strap B, seen at z', g. 4; This clamp is prevented from 'slipping o' by means of the shoulders e, gs. 3 and 4, which are detached views showing the manner in which the band C is secured to the piece B. This strap can be `made to conform to any curtain-stick, either round, square, or ilat, as may be desired. When the curtain is to be raised the free end, E, of the band, is pulled, and thc spring D pressed down, thus relieving the ends from the band, and allowing it to move more easily, the lower curtain-stick resting in the loop F of the band, which, when drawn up by pulling the end E of the band, rolls the curtain up as desired, the strap B being secured to the upper stick of the curtain, and when the spring is relieved it holds the baud from slipping and allowing the curtain to fall. If desired, the curtain can be raised without pressing in the spring, as above stated, by merely pulling the band.
What I claim as my improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The spring D, points a, and baclpiece A', constructed and arranged as set forth, in combination with the band G, for the p'urpose specified.
2. The strap B, clamp d, roller c, and band C, arranged and operating as and for the purpose described.
C. F. HERRICK.
