INVENTOR BY v ATTORNEY.
NTTED STATES PATENT einen,
FRANK STEVART GRAN", OF VATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO HERBERT C. ARMSTRONG, OF YALESVILLE, CON- NECTICUT.
CLOTHES-DRIER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 632,999, dated September 12, 1899.
Application led February 28, 1899. Serial No= 707,234. (No model.)
To all whom, t may concern,.-
Be it known that l, FRANK STEWART GRANT, a citizen of the United States, and aresident of lVaterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and usefulImprovements in Clothes- Driers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective View of the invention as in application. Fig. 2 is a central vertical longitudinal section of same. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view showing sockets F formed of separate pieces of metal.
This invention is designed to provide an improved clothes-drying bracket of simple and convenient character, which can be readily secured to or removed from any convenient support in a room-such as a shell", table, stove, or side of the roomand which when not desired for use caribe stored in compact form.
Vith these objects in view the invention consists in t-he novel construction and combination of parts, all asv hereinafter described, and pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring tothe accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the base of the bracket,
4consisting in a casting having a U-shaped clamp provided with a set-screw B, by means ot which it may be readily engaged with and secured to a shelf, the edge of 'a table, stovetop, or other convenient support and in a vertical cylind ric socket portion A. The vertical wall d of the clamp portion ot' the base is provided with' the lateral notches d and the aperture 0.2 to receive screws C, whereby the clamp may be turned around Withits flat side toward a wall and secured thereto, as shown in Fig. 2. The screws C are formed with the tapered points c and shoulders c' and may be turned into a wall by the hand without aid of a screw-driver, being provided with long Shanks c2 for convenience of manipulation.
D designates a vertical tube open at its ends and tting at its lower end portion into the socket A' of the base A. Formed on and around the upper end portion of the said tube are a seriesof vertical sockets E, which may be conveniently formed by crimping and securing a piece of metal around the tube, as shown. Formed on and around the socket A of the base are a series of similar sockets F. These sockets E and F are designed to receive a series of radiating clothes-supporting arms G, which consist of light steel or iron rods, each of which is bent at its inner end portion, as indicated at g, for removable engagement with one of the sockets E or F. The tube D and socket A' may be fitted with as many of t-he small sockets E and F as may be desired, and the number of arms which may be used at any time can be varied according to the position in which the bracketis supported or as may be required. Vhen desired, the tube may be removed from the base and the lower series only of the arms used. Vheu not in use, the arms may be removed and conveniently disposed of in a compact manner for storage or shipment by placing them within the tube. general symmetry, the tube is usually made ot' about the same height as the length of the arms. Y
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The herein described clothes drying bracket, consisting of a base portion having a U-shaped clamp', and a vertical socket, a tubular standard detachably litted to said socket, aseries of clothes-holding arms adapted to be contained within said standard when notin use, and means for detachably securing the said arms to said bracket, substantially as specilied.
2. In a clothes-drier, a bracket having a U- shaped clamp, a vertical socket olset with respect to said clamp, a series of smaller sockets carried by said socket, and a series of clothes-holding arms adapted for detachable engagement with said lsmaller sockets, substantially as specilied.
3. In a clothes-drier, a bracket havinga U- shaped clamp, anda socket portion offset with For this purpose, as well as for.
