vented certain newand useful Improvements in Neck-Yoke Centers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to neck-yoke centers of that type embracin ga clasp upon the neckyoke bar and a band or collar on the tongue and pivotally connected to 'the elasp, my object in this connection being to produce a device of this character which is eicient in use, adjustable to iit neck-yoke bars of varying diameters, and of simple, strong, and durable construction and which may be placed on the market at less cost than analogous devices of equal strength and reliability.

To these ends the invention consists in certain novel and peculiar features of construction and combinations of parts,as will be hereinafter described and claimed, and in order that the invention may be fully understood reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, in which* Figure 1 represents a perspective View of a neck-yoke center embodying my invention. By the use of 65 these longitudinal and oblique intersecting slots it is obvious that the clasp may be diametrically increased or diminished, so as to iit neck-yoke bars of corresponding diameterthat is to say, when the center of the oblique slots register with the longitudinal slots itis obvious that the clasp is of diameter to engage neck-yoke bars of intermediate size and that Yby causing the inner ends or the outer ends of the oblique slots to register with the longitudinal slotsthe'clasp will be diametrically, diminished or.- increased, respectively, so as to 'lit smaller or larger neckyoke bars, as will be readily understood. f

By this arrangement it is'obvious that the clasp 'operates pivotally` upon the circular bosses 4 of the collar without weakening the securing-bolt 15 by frictional contact with any other part. In other ,Words,' the bolt 15 isV simply used as a securing-bolt and not as a pivot.

To relieve the securing-.bolt 15 ofanyout- Ward or tensile lstrain upon its head and threads applied by the arms 13 as levers fulcruming upon thel neck-yoke bar, the clasp Vmembers at opposite sides of the arms 13 are provided'with parallel lugs 17, whichare riveted irmly together, as shown at 18, or otherwise reliably secured. These rivets relieve the bolt, as hereinbefore stated, of the strain imposed when the neck-yoke bar is slipped in or between the clasp-sections, and the latter are bent downward by insertion in a vise or in any other suitable manner, so as to conform to the exact curvature of the bar, the clasp-sections being of d uctile metal, as hereinbefore suggested, so that this purpose may be readilyeffected. When benttightlyaround the bar, they are secured by means of the screws 12, as hereinbetore explained. From the above description it Will be apparent that I have produced a neck-yoke center which embodies the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of invention, and it Will be further understood that I reserve the right to make all changes which properly fall within the spirit and scope of the invention. Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A neck-yoke center, comprisinga collar mounted upon the tongue of a Wagon, a split neck-yoke-bar clasp pivoted to said collar and embracing the neck-yoke bar, there being formed in one of the edges of said clasp longitudinal slots, and in the other edge of the clasp oblique slots registering with the longitudinal slots, and securing devices exgether at their front edges, one section being i provided in its rear edge with a longitudinal slot, and the other section with an oblique slot, the latter being adapted to'register with the former, and a securing device, such as a screw, extending through said registering slots into the neck-yoke bar, substantially as described.

3. In a neck-yoke center, a neck-yoke-bar clasp, consisting of two sections secured together at their front edges, one of the sections being provided With longitudinal slots in its rear edge, the other being formed with a recess to receive the rear edge of the first* named section, said extension being provided with oblique slots adapted to register with said longitudinal slots, substantially as described.
