u M BRELLA-REPAIRING DEVlC'E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 629,168, dated July 18, 1899. Application filed June 27, 1898. Serial No. 684573. (No model-l To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,-WILLI AM THOMPSON BROWN MCDONALD, of Granby, in the county of Sheiford and Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain newand useful Im-? tion thereof adjacent to one end cut away and the part thereof intervening between said cut-away portion and the end slit and adapted to be opened out to receive the part of a broken main rib contiguous to the point where the branch or supporting rib is pivoted, if a main rib happens to be broken near where a branch or supporting rib is pivotally connected thereto, while the cut-away portion accommodates said supporting-rib and the other endof the tubular section receives the other broken end of the main rib, which is retained therein by a set-screw. For full comprehension, however, of myinvention reference must be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which like symbols indicate corresponding parts, and wherein- I Figure 1 is an elevation of the inside of an open umbrella having several of its ribs and the adjacent end slit, as at 12.
broken and one repaired by my improved device; Fig. 2, anenlarged detail perspective view of my improved device for repairing amain rib when broken near where the branch or supporting rib is pivotally connected.
The device for repairing a main rib when broken near where the branch or supporting rib is pivotally connected thereto consists of a tubular section 10, having a portion near one end cut away, as at 11, and the portion intervening between said cut-away portion In order to apply this device,the slit end is opened out and made to clasp the unbroken portion of the main rib 13 and the cut-away portion to accommodate the joint 14, while the tubular portion 10 is fitted over the broken end of the rib 13, to which it is rigidly connected by the set-screw 15, thus repairing the broken main rib.
What I claim is as follows;
A device for repairing broken umbrellaribs, consisting of a tubular section having a portion adjacent to one end thereof cut away andthe portion intervening between said cutaway portion and said end slit, and the other end thereof provided with a set-screw, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM T. 'B. MCDONALD. Witnesses:
