Be it known that I, CHESTER W. SYKES, of Suield, Connecticut, have invented a. new and useful improvement. the combination of :t Knife and Scissors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and exact. description of thc sinne, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, Ina-king part of this specification, in whieh- Figures 1 and 2 represent :t side View.
'lhe improvement consists in the combination of a. knife with a. pair of scissors, and a. shield t0 cover the knife when not in use. It is done in the followingmanner: i
I make a pair of scissors as usual, with the addition 01' formation of a. knife-blade on the back edge' of' one of the blades of the scissors, the knife und the scissor-blade being one and the same piece, as represented in iig. 2, letter B, to which I attach the shield A at CC, it being` forined of a1 thin piece of metal doubled nearly together, so that the knife muy enter between its edges and be closely covered by it when formed and closed as represented by iig. I. Fig. 2 represents the scissors open, with shield partly open, which may be turned` back until it hits the shank und bow of the scissorsfthercby fastening the scissors closed and leaving the knife uncovered for use. v
What I claim, a-nd desire to secure by .Letters Patent, is-
The knife-blade B, shield A, in combination ivith the scissors, when constructed andoperating substantially as herein described.
