TG ALL WHOM IT MAY` CONCERN:
Be it known that I, HENRY FA'US, ofHayesville, in the county of Ashland, in the State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful ImprovementA in theY Boot-Crimping Machine; and do hereby declare that the following is a full and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon. 3
The nature of my invention consists in providing a method for the mobility of thc two jaws, so that by means of a wedge-shaped key and gainv cut in the lower and internal margin of each jaw, a perfect parallelism bctween`them is preserved, and the machine therefore rendered adaptable to all grades of leather from the heaviest to the lightest. Y
I construct my crimping machine as follows: A t
The bench A A is two and-a half feet long and one foot wide, on which are constructed two jaws, represented by the letters B B, each jaw being twelve (12) inches long and ten (10) high; the internal surfaces being composed of' solid wood, and the external of a skeleton metal casting, for the purpose of giving strength and solidity to the jaws. Through the lower part of each jaw passes an iron rod, c c, hinge-like in form, and with both ends bound to the bench, forming with it a kind of hinge for the mobility of the two jaws. On the internal and lower margin of either jaw is cut a gain for the admission of a. wedge-shaped key, bythe introduction or withdrawal of which the interval between the jaws is regulatedto suit the operator. Through the centre of the planes of the two jaws passes an iron bolt with a`bur and screw, F, which serves to tightcnthcjaws on the crimp. The lercr, which is three feet, contains the crimp form, and is'fastened to the bench at one end;
I and both jaws, being movable, describe, when depressed in the operation of crimping, a central plane between the jaws. At the top of the let-er is a projection and gain containing a screw-rod, G, and clamps H, which serve to draw tight the leather on the crimp form.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is V v The iron rods composing the hinge-like arrangement providing for the mobility of the jaws and the wedgeshaped key and gain out in each jaw, for the purpose set forth.
HENRY FAUS.
