TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JERRY A. HUNTER, of New London, Campbell county, in the State of Virginia, have invented a new and useful Improvementon the Machine for Straightening Tobacco; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, makingpart of this specification,'in which I Figure 1 is a view of the inside of the funnel-shaped brush, with upright rollers attached.
Figure 2, a. back view of the machine.
Figure 3, a front view of the machine; and
Figure 4, an end view or" the machine.
The lower grooved roller R R, fig. 2, is so arranged thatit may be raised by means of keys, k is, (fig. 4,) in event of the timber shrinking by time or wear, and thus made to work as correctly as when first made.
In front of the rollers is placed a funnel-shaped movable brush, B, fig. 3, to which are attached two upright self-acting rollers, r1, fig. 1, said brush being removed from the machine, if desired, by lowering the lower bar 6 b, fig. by means of keys K K, fig. 3. Through this brush the tobacco first passes, and is cleaned of all dirt, and also straightened, and thus held in place, and by means of the upright rollers 1' r, fig. 1 forced to pass through the grooves g 9, fig. 2, which straighten and press the bundles of tobacco to a proper size for prizing.
This machine is intended to be used by planters when prizing their tobacco for market, and will save the labor of several hands, as, after passing through the machine, it is better-prepared than it can be by six or eight men.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The funnel-shaped brush, and upright self-acting rollers attached.
