To all whom zit may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMEsL. CRANE, of Cleveland, Cuyahoga county, Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Store-Fronts and Show-Cases; and I do hereby declare the followingto be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use' the same.

My invention relates to improvements in store-fronts or show-windows and show-cases.

The object of my invention is to provide an improved construct-ion and arrangement of parts in fastening two glass plates that are arranged at an angle to each other at the corner formed between the said plates without weakening the said plates at their meeting or adjacent edges and without interfering with a tight [it between the plates and without concealing the finely-finished edges of the plates.

With this object in view the invention con- Sists in certain features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter described,

and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure I is an exterior View of a show-front embodying my invention. Fig. II is a horizontal section on either one of lines II Il, Fig. I, and shows the parts full size. Fig. III corresponds with Fig. II except that in Fig. III the corner-clamp is removed. Fig. IV is a horizontal section on any one of lines IV IV, Fig. I. Fig. V is a vertical section on line V V, Fig. III, looking in the direction of the arrow. Fig. VI is a view in perspective of the corner-clamp. Fig. VII is a top plan in horizontal section, corresponding in the main with Fig. II, but showing a slight modification.

Referring to the drawings, A and B designate two upright glass plates of a show-window, that are arranged at an angle to each other and are tightly itted together. The meeting or adjacent edges of the said plates are ground and polished.` In the case illustrated, A represents the front plate of ashowwindow, and B one of the side plates of the window. In any case, however, my invention essentially involves two glass plates arranged at an angle to each other `and tightly fitted together. In the case illustrated the front plate A overlaps the edge of the side plate B.

To prevent the glass plates from being broken by lateral pressure occasioned -by heavy winds or by the tools or instruments employed in cleaning the plates or accidentally by persons or objects participating in the display of goods within the show-windowI provide corner clamps or fasteners Dat two or` more points between the upper and lower ends of the plates. Each of the said cornerfasteners involves,essentially, an outer angleplate or jaw D', an inner jaw or plate D2, means instrumental in connecting the two platesD' and D2 together, and registering recesses F in the meeting or adjacent edges of the glass plates for 'accom modating the location and operation of the aforesaid connection. The outer jaw or angle-plate D has two arms or wings d and d', arranged to engage the outer side of the diiferent glass plates A and B, respectively, at the external corner formed between the two glass plates. The inner jaw or plate D2 has two arms or wings d2 and d3, arranged to engage theinner side of the different glass plates, respectively, at the intern al corner formed between the glass plates. In the case illustrated the connection between the two jaws or plates D' D2 is a stud or screw d4, that is rigid with the outer jaw or plate D at the latters angle and projects inwardly in a horizontal plane and diagonally and eX- tends through the registering recesses F F, formed in the meeting edges or ends of the glass plates, and loosely through a hole formed in the inner jaw or plate D2, and a nut D5, mounted upon the stud or screw, is arranged to secure the two jaws or plates D D2 in their operative position, wherein they clamp the two glass plates between them.

As alreadyv indicated, the two glass plates A and B are ground and polished at their 4meeting or adjacent edges and are tightly cesses F are open, therefore, at the edges ofl the plates and do not weaken the latter in any respect. Each recess F in plate B is formed at the junction of the inner side and edge of the plate and registers with the recess F, formed in plate A, as shown more IOO Yclearly in Figs. III and V. The sectional viewFig..VII shows a slight modification, in that the front plate A projects edgewise a short distance beyond the outer side of the side plate B, so as to form an angular recess G between the outer side of the side plate and the rear side of the front plate, and in this 'case the arm cZo'f the outer angle-piece or itted together, and having registering re cesses in their meeting ends, an outer anglepiece D' arranged to bear against the outer sides of the said plates; an inner piece D2 arranged to bear against the inner sides of the said plates, and a connection, between the said parts D and D2, extending through the aforesaid recesses.I

In a show-window, the combination with an upright front plate A having the recess F in its edge, and the side plate B fitting against the rear side of the front plate at the aforesaid edge, and having a recess F formed at the junction of its forward edge and inner side and registering with the recess in the front plate; an angle-piece arranged to coni ceal the recess i'n'the front plate from the eX- terior and to bear against the outer sides of the two plates; an inner plate or piece arranged to bear againstthe inner sides of the said plates opposite the external angle-piece,

and a connection, between the said bearingpieces, extending through the aforesaid recesses, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

3. The combination of two glass plates arranged at an angle to each other, and one of them overlapping and projecting a short distance beyond the adjacent edge of the other, and both plates being tightly fitted together and having registering recesses in their ad-` jacent edges; an outer angle-plate D arranged to bear against the outer sides of the said plates and enlarged inwardly, as at D3, into the angular space formed between the two plates by the projection of the one plate beyond the edge of the other plate, an inner plate or piece-D2 arranged to bear against the inner sides of the said plates, and a connection, between the said plates, extending through the aforesaid recesses.

4. A show-window comprising two upright glass plates arranged at an angle to each other and tightly fitted together, and having, in their meeting or adjacent edges and at different points arranged a Asuitable distance JAMES L. CRANE.
