EDWARD D. GONKLIN, OF MADISON, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO THE WHIClTEI-IEAD & HOAG COMPANY, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
TOP.
Application filed August 7, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD D. CoNKLIN,
a citizen of the United States, and resident of Madison, in the county of Morris, in the State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tops, of which the following, taken in connection with the ac companying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to certain improvements in tops.
The primary object of the invention is to produce a toy top of simple construction, readily manufactured, and which by reason of its inexpensive nature constitutes not only an article of considerable commercial value, but also may efficiently be used by manufacturersas a gratuitous advertising medium for theirproducts.
Other objects and advantages will appear from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view of the top. Fig. 2 'is a vertical central cross section of the same. Fig. 3 is a view. of the spindle or post. V The invention as shown comprises a suitable spindle or post l ofmetal or other I suitable material, said post preferably slightly tapered at the bottom.
A suitable plate l, preferably, as shown, a metallic circular plate, although.
other suitable material may be used, is also mounted on the spindle -1 and engaged with the fiat upper face of the shoulder -2, said shoulder limiting the downward movement of said disk along the spindle.
It will now be readily apparent that if the disk and plate are secured together, they will constitute a compound flat member lying in a plane at substantially right angles to Specification of Letters Patent.

tistic matter, and having its edge turned inwardly about the flange 5 and adapted to be positioned in the completed structure between the edge of the disk 3 and said flange.
Details of this character may, however, .be widely varied, and certain of the elements described as preferable changed or entirely omitted, without departing from the spirit of this invention as set forth in the appended claims.
hat I claim is 1. A top comprising a spindle having a shoulder associated therewith, a disk upon one side of the shoulder, a plate upon the opposite side of said shoulder, and means connecting the disk and plate.
2. A top comprising a spindle having a shoulder associated therewtih, a disk upon one side of the shoulder, a plate upon the opposite side of said shoulder, a covering of celluloid or other material for said plate,
opposite side of the shoulder, a covering of celluloid or other material for the plate, said plate having portions flanged about the disk to rigidly connect the parts.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 30th day of July 1915.
EDWARD :o. CONKLIN.
