UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
EMANUEL M. LEVY, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
CA-r-noATuRia-CARD.`
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 624,347, dated May 2, 1899.
Application iiled July 1l, 1896. Serial No. 598,803. v(No model.)
To all whom t may con/cern."
Be it known that I, EMANUEL M. LEVY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Caricature-Cards, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a card for producing amusing caricatures and will be fully and clearlyhereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a suitable design for a card to illustrate my invention. Fig. 2 represents a back View of the caricature-card. Fig. 3 also represents a back view of the card, the tracing-paper being removed and the opening cut through which the face of the photograph is exposed.V
Referring to the' drawings in detail, l represents the front face of the card, and 2 the back of the saine. A small sheet of tracingi paper 3 is secured at the top edge, at or about traced thereon the tracing-paper 3 is removed and laid upon the card, and while being held closely thereon it is rubbed with some smooth lhard pointed instrumenta pencil, a porcelain style, or any smooth hard material adapted to rub the paper with-until an impression is transferred to the card. A sharp knife is then used to cut a piece out within the transferred lines, thereby leaving an opening 6' (see Fig. 2) of the same shape as the outline `in the photograph. After this opening has been out out the photograph is then slipped under the strips 5 and 5, so that it Will be in about the position indicated by the dotted lines 7 in Fig. 2, the face of the picture just lling the opening, so that when the card is reversed it will appear through said opening,
and, as illustrated in the drawings, it will appear connected with the caricature of a lost child and a policeman.
I have shown a caricature of a policeman and alost child as an illustration only, be
front face, a portion of said caricature consisting of the representation of the body of a human figure having a blank portion in lieu of a head and face, holding-strips secured to the' back of the sheet directly behind the blank portion, and a tracing or transfer sheet detachably fastened to the back of the sheet, whereby a smaller sheet of cardboard having a photographed representation of a human face can be placed beneath the transfer-sheet and the outlines of the photographed representation traced on said sheet and then transferred to the blank portion in the caricature by detaching the transfer-sheet from the back and placing it over said blank portion so that an opening cut in the blank portion will correspond exactly With the outlines of the photographed face, and the smaller sheet of cardboard placed in the holding-strips will expose only the photographed face through the cut in the blank portion corresponding to the outline and thereby join it exactly to the caricature representation of the body of the human lign re to complete the caricature, as set forth.
