'GARBAGE-CABINET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 623,642, dated April 25, 189,9.
Application flled September 21, 1898. Serial No. 691,506. (No model.)
To all whom, t 11i/ty concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW K. WALLEN, Sr., a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Ottawa, in the county of La Salle and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garbage- Cabinets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanyin g drawings and the letters of reference thereon, forming a part of this specication, in which- Figure l is a perspective View of the garbagecabinet as it would appear when its drawer is pulled out; and Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-sectional view through its center, showing the drawer within the cabinet.V
This invention relates to certain improvements in garbage-cabinets of the class designed to stand on a sidewalk or other convenient place for the reception of any sort of garbage or refuse -matter, which improvements are fully set forth and described in.. the following specification and claims, reference being had to the drawingshereto annexed and the letters of reference thereon, making a part of thisspeciication.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a case or cabinet having an open bottom and' an open rear side and provided on its upper or top part with an opening covered by a door B, having a spring E attached to its under side for engaging the case Ato hold the door closed.
D is the drawer for receiving garbage material through the doorway in the top of the case. The drawer D is intended to be made of sheet metal aud formed so its inner side is inclined toward its bottom, as shown, so it can be more easily emptied than if its inner side were vertical. Itis attached to a back F insuch manner as to leave a space or chamber S between said .back and drawer, so when the hand is inserted` in the hand-holes d a in said back they may not come in contact with garbage in the drawer. r r are handles on the ends of the drawer for lifting it. The drawer D has cleats o at the top at both ends for sliding on the cleats c on the inner ends of the case, on which cleats c the drawer D rests and slides when in the case.
When in use,the cabinet is intended to be set on the curbstone of a sidewalk with the drawer side facing the street, so that when a garbagewagon cornes along the drawer may be pulled out and emptied into the garbage wagon. The drawer is then put back into the case A. The device being closed up prevents all obnoxious smells and prevents wind from scattering papers, ashes, &c., that may be put into the cabinetdrawer and prevents animals from interfering with any matter in the cabinet, the whole forming a very neat, inexpensive, and effective garbage-receptacle.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:
The garbage cabinet or receptacle shown and described consisting of the combination of the case A having an open bottom and back, and having the receiving-doorB, and having the interior end cleats c, and the drawer D having its forward side inclined toward its bottom and having the end cleats o and end handles fr, and the back F provided with the hand-holes d, and attached to said drawer in such manner as to have the space or chamber S between said back and the back of said drawer, all arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
