MUSTACHE-GUARD FOR SPOONS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 621,944, dated March 28, 1899.
Application filed November 21, 1898. Serial No. 697,016. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. RING, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Ohicago, county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Mustache-Guards for Spoons, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a guard which may be applied to a spoon to prevent the mustache from getting into the spoon when being used and which may be removed When the spoon is cleaned.
It consists of a guard sliding on over the top of the bowl of the spoon in guides at 'each end, as hereinafter described.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my spoon, the guard being removed, but in position for insertion. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the bowl of the spoon and through the guard.
A represents the bowl of the spoon; B, the handle; 0, the guard; D E, the guides in which the guard slides; F, the flange atthe back of the guard; G, the curved forward edge of the guard, and H the projecting lip of the spoon.
The guard slides on and off in the grooves or guides D E, located at each end of the bowl.
When the spoon is to be washed, the guard may be taken off.
The flange F at the rear edge of the guard acts as an additional guard and as a grip for handling the guard.
The front edge of the guard is curved at G, opposite the projecting lip H, to leave an opening between the bowl and the guard.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Let- I ters Patent, is-
The herein-described mustache-guard for spoons, consisting of the combination of the bowl A, the guides D and E at each end thereof, the guard 0 having the fiat front portion and the flange, F, at the rear edge, and adapted to slide in said guides D, E, all substantially as shown and described.
