A TTOH/VEYS UNITED STATES ROBERT J. MASBACH,
PATENT O FICE.
OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SCOOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 447,888, dated March 10, 1891.
Application filed April 24, 1890.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, ROBERT J. MAsBAoH, a resident of the city, county, and ,State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Scoops, of which'the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to so combine with an ordinary scoopa pivoted shield-plate that shall form either a double back to the scoop or a funnel.
My invention consists of a scoop of any description having pivoted to it at convenient points on its side walls a shield-piece of suitable shape, the operation and adaptation of which will more fully appear in a subsequent part of this specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same, in which Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved scoop. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view of the scoop, showing both positionsi. e., that of a scoop in dotted lines and a funnel in full lines; and Fig. 3 is a cross-section on the line 0 c, Fig. 2.
In the drawings, A represents a scoop of familiar construction; B, its handle; and a a, pivots on which the shield-piece D is swung.
WVhen it is desired to employ the scoop as such, the shield-piece D is turned backward, as shown in Fig. 1 and by the dotted linesin Fig. 2.
In this position, by striking the back SerialNo. 349,310. (No model.)
in which case the cheeks of the shield D fit closely to the sides of said scoop, leaving only a small opening between the said shield and the mouth of the scoop. This funnel can be introduced into any vessel and used in the same manner as an ordinary-funnel.
The advantages of my invention are the increased capacity of the scoop and the quick and easy method of forming a funnel therefrom. Therefore Having described my invention, what I claim is The combination of the scoop A with the pivoted shield-piece D, having cheeks d, that bear against the sides of the scoop, said shield-piece being adapted to fold against and extend the back of the. scoop, and also to fold over the mouth of the scoop and form a funnel, as specified. l
ROBERT J. MAS'BACH.
