- NITED STATES ATEN'i FFlC WOOD-BENDING MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 619,459, dated February 14, 1899. Application fil d February 18, 1898- Serial No. 670,738. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, NAPOLEON B. ZUCOA- RELLO, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Nashville, county of Davidson, State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wood-Bending Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in wood-bending machines, and has for its object to increase the capacity of one machine for different purposes, and also to supplement the construction shown in Letters Patent No. 597 ,452 issued to me. I attain these results by the employment of the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of my bender, show-' ing the ends of the body-sections and center rest. Fig. 2 is an elevation showing the side of one body-section and the arrangement of slots and weight-supports. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the center rest, and Fig. 4 is a detail view of the adjustable pressure-bar.
Like letters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views of the drawings. A represents the body-section fixed on the bed A, and B the movable body-section.
O O are the quadrant benders.
D D are the pulley bearing supports for weighted cords d d.
E E are rollers attached to the body-sections at their upper inner edges.
F is a center rest adjustably and detachably secured to the bed by bolts extending through slots cut in the bed.
F F are longitudinal slots cut into the center rest from the ends and adapted to receive the bolts securing it to the bed.
f is a shoulder which may be made on the center rest F.
Gr Gare slotted bolt connections for the quadrant benders.
H is the adjustable pressure mechanism.
My more important improvements consist of the-center rest F and the rollers E E. My other improvements are constructional and supplementary as adjustments.
The center rest is for the purpose of bending narrow lumber and may be set parallel with the body-section with which it is to cooperate, or it may be secured at any desired angle thereto. This rest may also be used in conjunction with the two body-sections and quadrant benders at one time With a great variety of results. The construction of this rest adapts it to quick application and removal.
The rollers E E support the lumber during the bending process, and as the quadrant benders in operation force the lumber over those rollers no damage is done to the surface of the wood.
The combination of the slotted hinges shown in the drawings afford the maximum capacity for adj ustmen't.
Having described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. A wood-bending machine consisting of body-sections, quadrant benders, roller-supports, center rest, slotted hinges, and adjustable pressure-bar, and counterbalanceweights, as shown.
2. In a wood-bending machine, the combination with a bed, body-sections, quadrant benders, and pressure mechanism, of weighted cords to balance said quadrant benders, woodsupporting rollers at the top of said section, and an adjustable edge-rest for the wood between the sect-ions, substantially as described.
Signed by me, at Nashville, Tennessee, this 11th day of February, 1898.
NAPOLEON B. ZUOOARELLO.
