CHESTER L. BRITT, OF LYNN, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNR OF ONE-HALF TO REUBEN H. PAGE, OF SAME PLACE.
WOOD-SCRAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 619,131, dated February 7, 1899.
Application filed MaylS, 1898. Serial No. 680,571. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: veX form the hand is enabled to obtain a puro Beitknown that l, CHESTERL. BRITT, acitichase thereon without receiving painful inzen of the United States, residing at Lynn, in jury, such as would result if sharp corners or the county of Essex and State of Massaehuangles existed, and whereby the operator is ensetts, have invented a new and useful \Vood abled to use the tool for a longer period of time Scraper, of which the following is a specificawithout suiferingfatigue, such as experienced 55 tion. when working with tools differently formed. This invention has relation to tools for tin- The part 2 consists of side pieces 7 and erossishing woodwork, and has for its object to depieces S, the side pieces having their outer Io vise a tool of this character which will not mar edges curved in an opposite direction to the the nest finish and which enables corners to profile of the part 1, whereby in elevation the 6o be reached and lightens the task to such an toolpresentsasymmetrical appearance. The part 1 is approximately of conmaking provision for having the clamp-screw 4o cavo-convex form and is provided at its sides out of the way. Inasm uch as the threaded withears 3, having transversely- aliningopenopenings 6, 10, and 13 are of like size and 9o ings, which are internally threaded to receive equal pitch of thread, it is possible to apply screws 4, by means of which the parts l and the handle 12 to any one of said threaded 2 are connected, the ears 3 embracing the sides openings, thereby securing the most advan- 4 5 of the part 2. Having thus described the invention, what is claimed, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
1. In a scraper, the combination with a frame or stock composed of two parts, one of the parts having a convex outer surface and provided with side ears and the other part litting between the said ears, fastenings passing through registering openings in the said ears and the side pieces of the part fitted between them, a bit placed between the complementary parts of the frame, and a clampscrew for securing the bit in an adjusted position, each of the parts of the frame being adapted to receive the clamp-screw, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. In va scraper, the combination with a frame having a series of internally-threaded openings arranged at different relative angles, and a bit having adjustable connection with the frame, of a clamp-screw adapted to be fitted into any one of the said openings for securing the bit in an adjusted position, and a handle adapted to be applied to any one ofthe aforesaid threaded openings, substatitially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In combination, a frame comprising two parts, one part having a convex outer surface and provided at one -end with a lug having an internally-threaded opening and the other part having an extension formed with inner and outer openings internally threaded and arranged at an angle to each other and to the threaded opening of the aforesaid lug, means for securing the parts of the frame together, a bit placed between the complementary parts of the frame, a clamp-screw adapted to be applied to any 011e of, the aforedescribed internally-threaded openings for securing the bit in an adjusted position, and a handle ternally-threaded openings, substantially asv and for the purpose set forth.
4. The herein-described scraper,`comprisI ing a two-part frame, one part being of concavo-convex form and provided at one end with a lug having an internally-threaded opening and having side ears, the other part comprising side piece's having their outer edges curving and adapted to be iitted between the said ears, and provided at one end with an extension having inner and outerl threaded openings, fastenings passing through registering openings in the ears and side pieces of the complementary parts for connecting them together, a bit placed between the parts of the frame, a clamp-screw adapted to be fitted into any one of the aforesaid internally-threaded openings for securing the bit in an adjusted position and a handle adapted to be applied to any one of the said threaded openings, substantially as set forth for the purpose described.
5. In a scraper, the combination with a frame or stock composed of two parts, one of the parts having a convex outer surface, a bit placed between ,the parts of the frame, a clamping-screw for securing the bit in an adjusted position, and a handle connected with the frame, the parts of the latter being provided With means for enabling either the screw or the handle tov be mounted on either ot them, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aiiixed my signature in rthe presence of two witnesses.
