SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 619,006, dated February 7, 1899.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, BLANOHE D. WURGLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and usefulImprovements in Suspenders, of which the following is a specification.

As is well known, it is somewhat difficult to secure the article of apparel generally known as a diaper upon a child so that it will remain properly in place, and in the ordinary method of pinning there is danger of drawing the folds so tightly around the body of the child as to bear forcibly upon and compress the surrounded parts, which in small children are tender and easily misshaped,thus endangering their proper development.

The object of my invention 'is to provide a convenient means of so securing diapers upon the bodies of children that they shall be suspended from the shoulders, thus avoiding the disadvantages named.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part hereof and on which similar letters and numerals of reference in dicate similar parts, Figure 1 is a perspective front view illustrating the apparatus in use on the body of a child, and Fig. 2 a plan view of the complete apparatus ready for use.

This apparatus consists of a yoke composed of the

curved bands

1 and 2, stitched together at the ends and adapted to pass over the head and rest upon the shoulders of the child, and two preferably elastic suspending-straps 3 and 4, extending down in the front and rear of the childs body, respectively, the strap 3 having suspended thereto two suitable clasps 5 and 6 and the strap t having suspended thereto a suitable clasp 7. Buckles Sand bucklestraps 9 form a convenient means of connecting the clasps to the elastic straps and of making the apparatus adjustable.

In using my improved diaper-suspender the diaper D is placed upon the child in the usual manner, except that the folds are not drawn so tightly together as is common, and the ends Serial No. 686,824. (No model.)

are secured together by ordinary safety-pins.

The suspender having been placed upon the supports the diaper securely. The yoke portion 1 2 being of an integral character is kept securely upon the shoulders of the child, so

that there is no danger of the suspender becoming displaced. The elasticity of the straps 3 and 4 makes it yield readily to any movement of the body, thus securing the utmost possible freedom of motion without any se vere pressure upon any of the parts. The apparatus is withal inexpensive and convenient to operate.

Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A diaper-supporter comprising an oval yoke adapted to pass over the head of the wearer and rest upon the shoulders, an elastic suspending-strap attached to each point of said yoke and extending down therefrom, attaching-clasps mounted on separate straps which are adj ustably secured to said suspending-straps, substantially as set forth.

2. A diaper-Suspender comprising a yoke formed by two pieces of fabric cut or made in curved form and stitched together at the points, to form an integral oval yoke, a suspending-strap attached to each point of said yoke, other straps adj ustably attached to said suspendingstraps, and suitable clasps secured on their ends for attachment to the garment, said supporting parts having elastic portions, all substantially as shown and described.
