Description

ILPETERS, PHOTO-UTHOGRAPMER. WASHINGTONY D CA @uiten tetes gstwt @ffice NAPOLI-EON SARONY, 0F NEW YORK, N. Y.
Lettere Patent No. 61,877, dated .February 5, 1867.
HOLDER FOR RBTOUGHING PHOTOGRAPHIG NEGATIVES.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, NAPOLEON SARONY, ot' the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and 'useful improvement on Frames or Holders for ltetouching Photographic Negatives, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, and in which- Figure l represents a view in perspective of a frame or holder, constructed according to my improvement, in its open condition.
Figure 2, a. like view of' the same closed; and
Figure 3, a transverse vertical section thereof opened or raised.
Like letters indicate like parts throughout the several figures.
My'invention has for its objeetthe construction of a frame or holder `for securing photographic negatives during the process of rctouching them or correcting defects and removing blemishes, and the nature of my invent-ion consists of a sectional main frame, made in two parte, the one of which is hinged to the other along one edge, the lower one being provided with a rciiecting interior, and the upper one adjustable to occupy dit" ferent anglesrelative thereto, and iittedwith a nest ot' removable independent frames ofthe necessary sizes and shape to hold different sizes of negatives; such sectional main frame also being provided at its one edge with an outer hinged support, whereby the main frame, when closed f'or use, without the aid of the mirror, may either be set horizontally or at ,a slight inclination from the horizon, at pleasure, the whole forming a compact and convenient device for the purposes mentioned.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, A represents the lower section of the main frame, provided inter* nelly with a mirror, b, which, when lying horizontally, or thereabouts, and in a proper position relatively to a window in the room, serves to reflect light through the negative arranged to lie in the upper section B of the main frame; the two sections A and B being hinged together, as at e, in order that theupper one'may be set to occupy the different angles relatively to the horizon or lewe;` section, in which different positions it is held, as raised, by hinged legs, d, falling into gear with notches or ratched formations, e, arranged along the side edges 0f the lower section. C C are independent frames or holders, made with grooves or recesses, jf, of al size and 'shape corresponding to the negative designed, in rctouehing, to be placedl therein, These independent frames are fitted to lie snugly one within the other, and constituting e nest of frames ofdiierent sizes, corresponding to the usual dimensions of dierent-sized photographs or negatives, and are made removable, being simply held by buttons or fastenings, g, so that any one oir-more of such frames may be taken out or inserted according to the sized negative to be secured, and which lies snugly in the recessf of its frame or holder. When it is not required to pass the light through the negative, and during certain manipulations thereof, the sectional main vframes A B may be closed, as represented in iig. f2, and the two made to occupy a horizontal position, or set in suchvclosed condition at a slight angle, by falling or lowering a support, 7i, hinged to the lower section A at its .back edge, and which support may be shut up against the edges of the two sections when not required, and so as tobe out of the way during a horizontal position of the frames.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the adjustable main frame, sections A B, mirror b, and independent frames or holders C C, substantially as and for the purposes specied; also the combination with the same of the hinged support z, essentially as shown and described.
NAPOLEON SARONY.
