Description

(No Mpdel.) M. FLAMMANG.
PLATE vHOLDER FOR PHOTOGRAPHIG GAMERAS. No. 280,166. Patented June 26., 1883.
zig/1.
G C) 7 v @1 l NITED TATES PATENT rricr..
MATHIASFLAMMANG, OF NEWARK, NEV JERSEY.
PLATE-HOLDER FOR .PHOTOGRAPHIC CAMERAS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 280,166, dated June 26, 1883.
Application filed May 27, '1882.
T all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that l, MA'rHrAs FLAMMANG, of Newark, in the county of EsseX and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Plate-Holders for Photographic Cameras, 'of which the following is a speciiication.
My improvement relates .particularly to plate-holders which comprise a frame, a septum, and two doors or covers which may be slid into and out of the'frame, all being so arranged as to adapt the plate-holder to receive two plates.
The object of my improvement is to provide for fastening the septum, or avv stopper used in conjunction therewith, in place in the frame by means of a device which shall not improvement.
project beyondvthe frame, s'o as to interfere with the packing of a number of plate-holders together, and to suit its being carried in the pocket.
The improvement consists in the combination, with the frame of a plate-holder, a septum, and a stopper used to exclude light, of a device for fastening the stopper to the frame, Working within recesses in the frame and stopper, so as not to occupy any space beyond that which is necessary for the accommodation of the plate-holder, and so as to be protected against accidental adjustment.
The device mentioned may consist of a hook pivoted within a recess in the frame and engaging with a pin arranged in a recess in the stopper.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top view of a plate-holder embodying my Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section thereof.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the iigures.
`A designates the frame of the plate-holder. lt may be of any suitable form.
B designates a septum iitting in grooves a in the frame A, and adapted to be slid into and out of the same through one end thereof.
It is provided, as usual with springs b, for pressing against sensitized plates arranged in grooves c, so as to hold them in position.
fintroduced and withdrawn.
(No model.)
C designates a stopper of ordinary form for closing the end of the frame through which the septum and the sensitized plates are inserted into and removed from it.
D designates 'doors or covers fitting in grooves d in the frame, and adapted to be slid into or out of the frame through the end opposite to that through which the septum B is These doors or covers have affixed to them hand-pieces E, fitting outside the frame,A and provided with spring-catches F, which are adapted to be engaged with and disengaged from staples G, to secure the doors or covers in the' frame.
The stopper C in this example of my invention is permanently fastened to the septum B.
H designates a device whereby the stopper C is fastened tothe frame to secure it and the septum B in place. As here shown, such device consists of a hook pivoted near one end to the top of the frame A in a recess, c, and adapted to engage, at or near the other end, with a pin, J, arranged in a recess, j', in the stopper C. The recesses e and j' are wide enough to permit ofthe necessary movements of the hook in engaging with and being diseugagedvfrom the pin J From the recess e extend laterally two recesses, g, which enable the hook to be easily grasped, so that it may be conveniently manipulated.
As this device for fastening the stopper in place does not project beyond the frame or stopper, the plate-holder can be conveniently carried in the pocket or packed with a number of others, and the device is protected against accidental adjustment, so that the stopper cannot become unfastened in carrying or handling the plate-holder and admit light.
Vhat l claim as my invention, and desire to 4secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination, with the frame of a plate-holder, a septum, and a stopper used to exclude light, of a device for fastening the stopper to the frame, and working within recesses in the frame and stopper, so as not to occupy any space beyond that which is necessary for the accommodation of the plate-holder, and so as tobe protected against accidental adjustment, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with the frame of IL tion of the platellolder, and s0 as to be prepmte-helder, in septum7 and :L stopper for exteeted against; accidentel mliusinnent, substzur 1e eluding light, of :L hoek for fastening the steptially as specied. pel te the frame and Werking Within recesses iu the frame and stopper, and adapted to engege with :1 piu arranged in 2L recess in the` Titnessesz stepper, se ns not to occupy any space beyond T. J. KEANE, that which is necessary for the nceommoda- JAMlcs R. BOWEN.
